Well this one's been going nowhere fast :-[
Too busy with work, but barber inspired me to get back to work:
I want everything on this bike to be clean, that meant that the stock triple wasnt going to cut it so it needed to be modified.
If any of you aren't aware, aluminum is awesome for several reasons, not least of which is that you can work it with woodworking tools. To the trusty band saw...
Once that was done it was a little bit of 220 grit sandpaper to get rid of all the casting marks and smooth out the cuts.
Then into the sandblaster.
Thats more like it.
so then I pulled out the calipers and realized that the stems are the same diameter on the SR500 triple and the WR250 triple. Great I can press one into the other and be good to go.
I dont have a press.
So I built one with a 12 ton bottle jack and some steel.
Pressed the sr500 triple out no problemo.
Put the wr250 in there and nothing happened. Zip, zero nada.
Tossed it in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes to expand the aluminum
Put it back in the press....nada
So i backed up, put a trashcan between me and the press in case it exploded and pumped the shit out of it.
Turns out my welds were damn good and at 12 tons of force none of them broke. The 1/4" x 3" C channel I used as the upper supports however buckled. And still the stem didn't move.
So who wants to press some stems for me?
