Suzuki GR650 - back to work...

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I forgot to add this this morning - i ordered some new motor mounts for the other GR, cut the rear fender a little bit, ordered some GS650 forks (dual calipers), and also ordered an integrated tail light too.

Still need to order: another rotor, both calipers, fork seals, new springs, etc, etc. The list could really go on.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Looks good Rich, Tough to make that frame look sexy but you're heading in the right direction.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

That line looks good Rich, I know what it is like to work with a less than optimum frame shape. Are you going ot mount a tail light in the back of the seat?

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Thanks guys - I will be adding a tail light to the seat pan. As much as I would like to make it "race only", this bike is being made for street duty.

Not much new to report except I layed the paint and stripped the tape from the head cover. Crappy cell phone pic - sorry!:

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

bike looks good, but I think your lady has a fat ass IMHO. I might like it better after the trim but in comparison to your tank, I think it's a little too big.

Other than that your progress is coming along. I'm digging the two tone on the covers.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Ok, I've been trying to check what angle and height I'm looking for and need some fresh eyes. Besides the black line, what do you guys think? Higher, lower, tilted front / back?

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I think the angle looks good. Is that black line where you are planning on cutting more off? Cuz' that looks like the place to cut it to me.

Rich, we expanded our shop and brought a couple more guys in. One of the new guys rolls in with an 81 GS450. all this time looking and he's got one. We're trying to figure out if we're going to fix mine his or both.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I like where you are going here rich, here is my 2 cents on the cut line. I think you line is real close to this, not much different, but i was looking at the lines of the seat and I don’t think it needs tilting, but I would adjust the cut line just a bit. Here are two pics to help you get the line I have in mind. Both of these are the same line, just two different pics for reference.

This makes the lines straighter, no swooping, which will also make it easier to get both sides the same! Not shown in the red line one but it is on the greyed out one is the rounding of the corner at the front of the seat.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I like it! Good eye. straight lines mimic the tanks lines better.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I love where your going with the tempter!!!!! I gotta agree with twistedwheelz on the seat, I like the way the straight line sharpens the look of the back end

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I groused a bit when you were talking about cutting that seat down but you're absolutely correct. Not only were those number plate portions HUGE...but it just didn't look quite right. Trimming it at the red line above is going to really clean it up.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Thanks guys - I will try to follow that line as close as possible. The frame rails will determine exactly what will be cut off or not.

oh ya, the black line is near the absolute edge of the frame. It was tough to figure out where the lines were because of the huge panels.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Im kinda stuck on this one Rich. I do think your lines are the best you can get trying to hide the rails. Though is there anyway to show em off & make it look intentional? Like JC bars in a car? Hold on tight!

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

Ya know, I actually thought about that. If I had the time, I wanted to cut the frame off behind the gas tank and just weld in tubing with the proper lines.

Maybe I'll get this running through next season, then NEXT winter try a new sub-frame.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

I was reading that post and thinking why not just cut the frame and make your own lines and then you said it.

Re: Trimming fat 10/12/10 - GR650

This project is at a little bit of a standstill. I've cut off a couple mounting tabs and have been fitting the glass seat to the original seat pan. Should make it very easy to get the seat on and off.

I have ordered some clip ons, front signals, headlight bucket, headlight mount, and some other small stuff. Hopefully this thing will get back on track soon.....

Re: GR650- calipers painted

Stupid 30 day warning.......got the calipers painted up. But not much else.

Not sure I'm too happy with the outcome. But it is progress none the less.
