"Tangerine Dream" / Glemseck - KZ750

The pic doesn't do it justice - sat on my TV table at the moment ! Those Titan boys are awesome.

Now back with the bike. Waiting for my old twin plug head to come back so we can mock the exhaust up .... again !

In the meantime the first light dust coat of the Metallic Silver applied. They neglected to tell me it was a base coat paint ! So will need lacquer. However, I'm not sure about leaving it as a base coat. I'll get a couple of heavy coats on and after a final flat I'll spray a flow coat and see what's what.

Silver enough for you Teazer !!!!

Hell yeah. Add a few coats of clear and it will look spectacular. :)

You made me do it !!!!!!

Yep - just a light dust coat last night to get the flavour.

Heavy coat and flat off with 600 then a heavy flow coat in next few days to see what we get. I have got clear lacquer already. I've run out of premium thinners - so top coat / lacquer will have to wait a bit.

Before I do final flat and flow coat I'll get some red card / whatever and mock up the front to rear Cobra stripe. If it works that will have to be laid on before the lacquer anyway. That will run over the tank through the filler cap area and IF I decide to go with the 1/2 fairing over that as well. The side panels will get the same treatment with red pin stripe to match the tank.

Generally pleased with the choice of colour - so many Silver's to choose from !

Back in the day I had a pre-unit T100 with red tank and seat, so the frame was obviously black. Looked good. Then I tried a silver frame with the red Manx fuel/oil tank and that was much better. Your shade of silver with heavy metallics should work well with the shade of red on the frame. Light colours make the bike look lighter.

Funnily enough, I have a Ducati ST3 in the shop for a makeover and it has silver/gray frame and tank and it will change to red tank and a brighter silver frame. Maybe something like your shade if I can get a decent silver from Prismatic Powder https://www.prismaticpowders.com/shop/powder-coating-colors?color=pris_silver

Too many choices for sure.

Remember the old Duke SS with the clear sight bar in the GRP fuel tank ? I sold one when I worked for Birmingham Motorcycles. That had a light Metalflake Silver tank from the factory [ and seat hump ] . I can give you the paint code for the Silver I have.

Coming along...liking the silver and a clear coat will top it off nicely...defo red stripe with the frame red too.

Put a flow coat on today - only got trade thinners, but it has flowed out nicely. The metallic really pops even without lacquer.

At last I am satisfied that this is the "right" colour.

I'll flat it with 600 and when I get the Best thinners I'll put a final flow coat on.

Had a brainwave today - I was wracking my brains trying to come up with a way of mocking up the red stripe / graffix .... lightbulb moment. Metallic gift wrapping paper ! Just ordered a roll off E-bay [ where else ] for £6.00. That will be enough to work out the seat, tank and fairing stripes. Oh and maybe the belly fairing IF that doesn't get made in alloy.

My machine shop guy called today to tell me the new Twin Plug head is ready - we went for 12mm central plugs in the end as there's a greater range of lengths and heat ranges than 10mm. He's made a jig .... if anyone else wants a KZ750 twin plug head.

He's also completed the mods to the fuel filler and cap so that I can fix it through the GRP seat base securely without having to resort to glue or whatever to mount it.

Hopefully the Red metallic paper will be here soon so I can mock up the "Cobra" stripe.

The tank cover had another wipe with filler today and we're somewhere near to start flatting off and getting the shape back.

Nice when what's in your head becomes reality !

He made the knurled threaded collar and turned down the filler cap so that it still sealed .... £5 !! All fits snugly - happy.

That Silver is really beginning to pop now and I have still got to do a final flow coat with Premium thinners.

Once the stripe has been mocked up it needs to be painted on - then clear lacquer the lot.

That's a lovely detail. Looking forward to seeing the final paint job. ..red stripes too.

Thanx NR,

it's only a small step in the grand scheme, but it will be another item actually finished ! I just wish I could do those Photoshoppy thingies.

Of course it's sod's law that the fuel filler cap ass'y is smaller than the Monza "tank" filler so the stripe has to be wide enough for that which makes it a little wide [ I think / maybe ] for the seat stripe. Anyway that's the purpose of the red paper to see "whatif".

I do have another idea too keep the stripe narrower when it gets to the tank .......... we'll see how creative I can be !

Actually thinking about it, I can actually mock that up with the 1/8" red masking tape I've got.

Talking of the tank, I need to pull my finger out and get on with that. However it's in Grey primer at the moment so that will give me any idea of the contrast between the Red and Silver for a mock up.

Im liking that cap....might have to nick that idea for a future build!!

Just had a catch up on the thread Beach, looking really really nice, some great work there :)

Layout to give myself an idea of how best to continue the stripe over tank and seat.

I've found some 50mm and 5mm wide Red tape so I can lay that down in place to give me the main centre stripe and the two outside pinstripes. That'll be here in a week or so [ Chinabay ].

I'd forgotten about the Manx style hold down strap [ cosmetic only ], so that needs to be taken into account when the stripe is designed.

I think the red stripe will enhance the alloy cap too. In view of the tie down strap....would you consider a wider stripe?, say 70mm? or a coachline along both sides...
