Good News, Rings are all good. I pulled the head off and it there were all there. I made a new gasket and torqued it down. Having a weird issue with the cam chain. Usually its a PITA to get it on the gear (which is was) but it won't slide on to the shaft. I need another 1/8 of an inch. I'll get it figured out tho. Something simple, I'm sure.

Make sure you 'flatten' the chain tensioner before putting the head back on.
It cn be done with the head on but it's a lot more difficult (back tensioner all the way off)

The chain guard was on the outside of the chain, not the inside. I got it worked out last night but had to break the cam chain in order to get it off the gear (talk about nerve racking). It's all back together now, outside of getting the carbs back on. I am going to up-jet it tonight when I get home and put it back together. Gas just hit $4.25 for premium so the 7.4l suburban needs to take a rest.

Do you mind me asking what tool you used to put the cam chain back together? I've tried unsuccessfully at it 3 times for some reason I just can't get the damn thing on without crunching the master on.

I have a chain breaker from Cycle Gear. It's not great at putting them back together if you have the pin completely out of the chain. They have explanations of using the rivet pins but it still leaves something to be desired. If the wife wasn't there with smaller hands it would have been hopeless.

I tried to go back and look, Are you running a front fender? If not you should at least have the brace out of it. Those are firestones you have on it right? They are terrible over bumps so with them and no brace that will be scary at higher speeds like on the Freeway, if you keep the firestones, put a steering damper on too and it might make it managable on the freeway, still won't be perfect though. They just get unsettled and swirly.

Yep, you can cut the brace part out of the factory fender and then attach the glass one to it, gives the stability and also saves weight. Unless you are going for an aftermarket one that clamps to the forks, which is better then you can make the fender mount to it.
