Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

Didn't get too much done this weekend. I turned in my car, as the lease was over, so I was working on getting my old truck started up.

I did get some bitchin' parts made from CrazyPJ. I removed the Speedo Gear Box so he made me up a spacer out of Al. Then a Tach Gear plug and some spacers to make up the diff for my foot pegs being relocated from the bottom engine mount.

Behold:

I popped out the "Honda" badge from my stator cover. Haven't figured out what I want to do with it yet. But I want to try to keep the thing badgeless.

Then test fitted the Reg/Rec unit so I can test the charging system now:

In other news, I got my truck started:

looking good. that bare tank looks sexy.

maybe I missed it. how are you going to mount the seat?

Thanks, all.

The seat mounts to a skeleton "I" and that "I" sit on the frame with lynch pins. It's in the tread a few pages back.

For the stator cover, I would file/grind down the lip around the edge. Then polish or paint it and replace the phillips head screws with stainless allen head or flanged cap head bolts. I think it would still look good if you left the lip but cleaner if you removed it.

Those holes next to the bolt heads, I assume the cover is aluminum? If so bring it somewhere that welds alum (if you don't) and have them filled in.

I like that idea, falcon. Maybe have a logo drafted up...

Just an update. I got a pretty decent chucn knocked down. Lengthened the starter cable. Had to change the ends of the battery cables and then I wrapped them in sleeving. Changed some of the reg/rec connections to bullets too. That helped to clean a lot of stuff up. Next I have to consolidate the gauge and control wires and then hopefully I can call it a day. Still not getting power to the signals but Im confident I will figure that out soon.

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

I had purchased some LED strips on the cheap months back for the tail light. I was sturggling to find a good way to mount these things but to no avail. I was going to have to come up with a lens as well and the only parts I was finding were whole kits for $70+. Didnt seem that smart to me to buy a lens kit and still have no way of getting these light bars securly mounted.

SO! I bought this:

Stole the idea from Ringo. The guys at Custom Dynamics told me today that you could boil and shape the lens (like you said, Joe) and then I could class a recessed enclosure for the light itself and even with the recessed placement, it would still light the shit up. Not bad for $45 shipped.

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

sweet; is that brake/running and turning?

interested how you do it as I was thinking of doing the same thing

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

Just running and brake. I have indicators.

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

The more I look at the spacer I made, the more I wish I'd kept it ;D
I'm going to have to get an electronic speedo and make some more speedo removal spacers, (when I can get some 2" bar ;) )

Ya it's pretty awesome looking. Very happy I have it. ;)

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

that tail light is going to look baller all lit up! you should add 3 led's to each side and tap them into the ground, put your turn sigs right in that

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

Now that we've gotten our tax money back, Im about to get seriously moving on my build. That LED is exactly what I had in mind. Any more info about it? Link to purchase/dimensions ?

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

I did some searching on the LED brake/running light thing last night

from what I read I think you can actually just buy standard LED strip and add a $5 "TruFLEX® Dual Converters" to give you dual intensity
(other companies have their own name for it or make your own through google but for 5 bucks might not be worth the bother)

problem is all the ebay LED's are those ugly 1inch or 1/2 inch spaced crap. cant find the 1mm ones yet

Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Wiring Loom Labeled

or checkout this led strip technology from the netherlands if you wanna pay 100 euro +

pretty sweet - its an actual LED strip/ribbon

Here is the link to the lights: http://customdynamics.com/led_flush_mount_kits.htm

That LED ribbon is fucking AWESOME!

OK so I got most of my stuff working today!

Here is what I posted on the electrical thread I have going:

I forgot I purchased two sets of controls. When I looked at the other set, I had a right hand control with a head light switch on it! Go figure huh? Unfortunately, I had already modified the switch I was using to fit on the bars I had so, I had to take the switch with the headlight switch on it, clean it, modify that one and put it back together.

So when I put that all back together...

Back to this thread. I also swapped the high beam switch from the other set of controls. The broken on is on top, facing the right.

At the end of the day, I have all the lights working, flashers working, I replaced a momentary switch for the starter... I BARELY tapped that thing and it works. Brake switched work, high beams, low beams etc etc etc... I just have to wire up the electronic ignition system and I should be good to go!

Man... what a day!
