250 went fine. Still running the thing in, and tbh Stoker rides his 150 much harder than I ride mine, so I spent most of the time looking at his arse (when he was in sight).

Poor bloody acecafe had brakes that were kind of not working. More power to him for completing.

start with the simple things to check, make sure the terminals on the battery are tight and corrosion free, and then put the battery on charge overnight

yep perfect, looks too high as you say.

CB250 NH has been stripped back. I've an old cb500 tank on its way, then will be clipons, seat, pod, jets, exhaust, paint engine black. stop, repeat.

Definitely want to move to a larger headlight to improve looks, not really that worried about power of light, won't do much night riding. There are plenty of options and plenty of mounting brackets to choose from.

Will any wattage headlight be compatible with the electrics?
There seems to be HID, H4, standard bulb, sealed beam options. Pros and cons?
etc etc

Basically can someone give this newbie a headlight guidelines 101 for the Ace.

the wiring on the ace is fairly thin so i would suggest keeping it at 35w or 50 at the most.

there is 28mm fork brackets on ebay ( they are a bit crap and needed tweaking to fit) that will fit the 27mm forks without any spacers etc.

im running a 6.5 inch now but a seven inch will fit the brackets i would think no worries.
You can get BA20D halogen globes that will fit the stock light as well.

HID would be a good idea if thats the path you want to gothey put out more light for the same watts as a halogen, but you will need to find a place to mount all the hardware (ballast)
edit - if you can find one low enough watts.

bummer, do you think you have melted wires ?

No idea.

Story is this, I replaced the headlight bulb after it blew. Before it blew when switched to high beam it was low beam and the high beam didn't work when switched to low beam. Some time before that the high beam did work when switched to low beam.

So I've been running around on just the park light for a bit while waiting for a new headlight bulb to arrive. Put it in, perfect, didnt check the tail light (I have a integrated LED setup), and when I arrived in the city today the tail light wasnt working at all, so I'm worried that the new 60W HID bulb has overloaded it all and I'll now need to by another 35W bulb from china again and a new tail LED light. I don't have a multimeter to test things either, so I'm flying in the dark, literally.

Getting home tonight from work without a tail light is not ideal!

So I will spend some time looking at the switch and the wiring.

Hope it is something simple Chris

So it sounds like I am best to stick to something like this H3 35W

http://thirdgear.com.au/big-seven-cafe-racer-chrome-headlight/

rather than this H4 55/60W

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331278147561?_trksid=p1.c100069.m2286&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131121102204%26meid%3D8908681716627375000%26pid%3D100069%26prg%3D20131121102204%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D331280960625%26clkid%3D8908690872584116530&_qi=RTM1430836

or this 55W halogen

Whatever I get, what do you guys do about those gaping holes on the back of some of these? Just leave them or cover them in somehow?

Cheers
Richard
