Things you absolutely despise

It would certainly make for an interesting experiment. I have a feeling it would work out pretty well. Not many businesses I know (and have worked for) operated on such slim margins that paying out an extra $50 per day, per employee, would cause them to go under.

I have NEVER seen a welfare recipient buy steak and lobster with their EBT card, ever. A little over ten years ago, I had to do the whole assistance thing for awhile. It sucked. From what I remember there's not enough money on an EBT account to buy lobster and shit like that. Not on an regular basis anyway. Not saying that it didn't happen, just don't act like it happens all the time. BTW I got off of assistance ASAP. I found a decent job w/ really good benefits. Where I live this is kinda rare, as it is a mostly farming/ seasonal type economy. Basically I live in the low rent part of Wa. state. The economy is getting better but it still sucks compared to the 90's. We need to close the loopholes in the tax code, hit the 1% a little (or a lot) harder on taxes. We need to spend a LOT less on the military and a LOT more on education. There's a lot wrong with the U.S. right now, hopefully we can straighten things out before we completely go to hell in a handbasket.

11 per hour would only cause inflation. 8 dollar gallons of milk is not a fix

Also, the Dutch.

Hey what is wrong with the Dutch, we invented the CD, DVD and Blu-Ray, with a little help from japan lol. Ohh and WiFi

Also on the list is the artificial heart and kidney, speed camera, red light camera, stock exchange, central banks, multinational corporations.

Hmm most of that stuff is crap actually. We did make orange carrots though.

You realize that the average number of employees per business is 16, and that with a few giant companies that employ many, most small businesses are far less, and tend to reach down into the 'micro' regions.

These companies can NOT afford that.

Consider the small company of 10 employees, and let us assume they are full time employees.

Now that the bottom rung employees are making 11 bucks an hour, you better give your Managers and such a similar increase in wages.

That would be around 800 dollars a week extra, in Oregon, just in wages, That doesn't include taxes, SS, etc. That would probably bring it to over a grand a week.

That's $52,000 a year.

That's a chunk of change.

We have the highest minimum wage in the country and I have not noticed inflation on a local level. I could be wrong though, the Wife says I am quite often. How muck does stuff cost where you guys live? I mean gas Is really expensive here, we have the highest gas taxes in the country. And cigarettes are really expensive. Enough to make me quit, like 8 bucks a pack. But electric is really cheap. Big ass dams all over the place. How much do you guy with families spend on food? Rent? Life stuff?
Seriously, Brad mentioned the inflation thing, and it made me wonder if I am being oblivious to the fact about how much shit costs where I live. Maybe another thread so we don't jack this one. Too late ::)

Haha its off a movie, I have been trying to figure it out all day.. I think it's a Mel Brooks movie haha. I have no quarrels with the Dutch. Just hoping to diffuse this thread some, which seems failed haha.. It's turned political.

We could sent a bill to the england for 60 years of not speaking german. buy the second world war well throw the first one in for free

this is what I know.....

1) As a kid, my family was on federal assistance for a bit of time, even living in subsidized housing. My father told me how things went south for the company he worked for, and it was a only a temporary set back.
I watched my parents hurdle the economic barrier
"....yada yada yada...
my life.....
my life......
your line....
whatever....."

2) I know what federal assistance is for... Assistance to get you back on track....there are SOME people that cannot live without it.

3) I have been in line at the local Stater Bros in Cali, and numerous times have I seen the checkout line FILLED with awesome goodness I would like to have on my table. Many a time, I see nice cuts of steak in the line, and a couple times, have I seen it paired with shrimp (never a lobster...). Ok..... the argument of getting a nice meal.......well, to my knowledge, those EBT cards are supposed to be for basic nutritional values.
oh by the way....I see clothing stores accepting EBT now....WTF? I saw some kid buying nikes and a LRG sweatshirt at one of those Marshall's type stores.
Did you guys see the mishap when XEROX screwed the pooch on those cards when doing program maintenance? Walmarts in one particular state, had people with 10 cartfulls of crap because there was an unlimited spending limit on them. Now you cant tell me there's nothing wrong there? Its that same attitute thats riles me.

4) The one that chaps my rear end, is the loss of income settlements given. I HAD a friend that was down and out, and I offered him a part time/ on-call job for the construction business I run. He told me that whatever he makes is taken off the gov. check that is given to him. So, did he end up taking the job? No, because he found that he would be getting paid the same sitting at home playing video poker, as opposed to the 10.00 an hour I offered him doing manual labor. I was so livid.....never talked to the guy again.

I agree with rays650 about much needed refining in the government.

edit: oh and i wished I had never started a franchise in Cali.......taxes, workers comp....screw me! I should have kept my teaching gig.

Looks like both our attempts failed lol.

Fuel is on average $6.38 a gallon in Australia, hence why I drive a diesel and ride bikes. And a pack of 20 cigarettes is around $19. Although our minimum wage is $16 an hour.

Post after post about those on federal assistance/welfare/EBT whatever you want to call it and so far not a mention of the house of representatives or the senate etc. We ll worry about some unfortunate sod hit by the economy and getting some help when we have DC full of the biggest leeches in America. AND they are the ones who can increase their checks whenever they want. If you want to bitch about who you are having to support start at the top. That's where the biggest leeches are.

But the news said its an epidemic. Statistics? What statistics? Blah blah blah blah blah blah. This convo/argument is pointless until both sides decide to actually research the FACTS and discuss them as rational fucking citizens who are all in agreement that the betterment of our nation and ALL OF ITS PEOPLE is paramount.

That said... This is the internet. Strike one, two and three.

Also, as our resident "artist" (he says rolling his eyes), RichArd has pointed out... There are motorbikes to build. Just don't you dare build them with assistance from anyone else who may have more than you. Ya lazy no good so and so. ;)

They should all be fired. Being politicians for the sake of being politicians kinda defeats the purpose.

I'm not so certain. The minimum wage during the '60s was pretty close to $10/hr in today's money and it was the longest uninterrupted period of economic growth in our nation's history.

I start employees at 10/hr.

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Well let's not argue...Make minimum wage $50 an hour...we all could use the raise....Though I suspect McDonalds would change from the dollar menu to the $10 dollar menu....
