Tim's SR500

Re: Tim's SR500 - Roller!

Excuse my crappy welds on the tank. Didn't want to blow through and I haven't used the welder in weeks. Will clean them up but it's solid. Might have a pro finish them off to ensure they're solid, and no leaks.

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

And in an odd twist of fate...

I need a petcock for the Bridgestone tank. It's a big threaded on mount.

At the Paris ON swap meet early Saturday morning, I bought an old British side stand for my rigid project for $5. While I was digging through I noticed the heaviest fuel valve I'd seen, and was having a peek. When I made the deal on the sidestand, the seller noticed I had been looking at the petcock and told me to take it - he had it bouncing around for years.

It's a Suzuki petcock, and has a solid brass bowl on it that weighs a ton. It has two fuel spigots, that are bolted on with banjo bolts so you can adjust the angle I suppose, and likely delete one of them.

No idea if it works, but, as you might guess, it threads right on perfectly to the Bridgestone tank. Everything moves smoothly and it's clean as a whistle with the reserve tube in place, so will give it a go! Inside the brass bowl there is a screen filter and cork gasket - so this thing basically functions as a fuel filter. Very nice petcock, even if it does weigh the better part of a pound.

I have a starter solenoid that would compliment that in size, style and weight, if you want me to grab a camera or a box.

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

No starter solenoid on an SR500 :D

Yes! This bike makes me happy! And that petcock is amazing! I would polish everything brass on it. It deserves it. I love over-engineered things, they look "in your face" functional!

You're having more fun than me in the shop right now...

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

Tim, reach out to my son CASI85. He will help you out with the petcock and anything else regarding this build. He went thru all of this when his Bridgestone was restored by Joey.
CASI85 made a lot of Bridgestone contacts in the process.
PM him. If he does not help you, I will beat his ass!!!!! :)

Just stumbled across this! Amazing Tim.
Good work mate.
I'm picking up a SR400 this weekend and you have given me a few ideas!

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

Will get more pics up but I cut a seat pan out yesterday. Just need to fine tune the shape and figure out how to bend the tail end up.

I actually picked up a petcock on eBay along with a spare gas cap and filter screen.

Stuck the mikuni vm36 on too. Starting to look like a bike. Need a banjo bolt for the caliper and likely a rebuild kit.

Mark a line, put it in the door jamb, lean against the door, then pull metal towards ya. Really looking good man, love seeing ya fabrication progress!!

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

The pan is 1/8 inch thick steel and I was looking to put a radius in it to match the tail.

For the moment I took the easy way out and am reshaping it to be a simple flat pan. Will also make upholstery easier.

Swapped out the bars too. More to come.

Tim I bent mine for my 400f to match the radius,
Just clamp a board to your work bench with the seat pan between the bench and board and slowly bend it, then Unclamp, move it a cm or so and do it again until you have a curve you're happy with.

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

Got me somewhere to put my hands. Clutch cable connected and it works!

Seat pan cut with a little fine tuning needed. Going to sort out some butt padding shortly. Will be interesting I think.

Need a couple of banjo bolts and a front brake line. Will 99% have to rebuild the Tokico calipers and the rear master.

Some wires and a capacitor... It's coming!

Sweet deal Tim. Will it be ready for Toronto MvR?

Re: Tim's SR500 - June 2013 - tank is mounted!

Maybe but hard to say. I've only got 3 weeks to work on it between now and then due to travel.
