Tire/Rim HELP!

Its funny how quick these things add up money wise $$$$$ :'( . Already spent 100 on new bars, grips, mirrors and a new seat that i have to take to get reupholstered like this picture . Im sure the seat shouldnt cost much since i know a guy that does good work for a good price with a quick turn around period .

For that price with those wheels a 17" rear is fine with the right modern sports tire. You can fit far better slighly wider rubber than a stock K2 skinny rear 18".
I was thinking of trying to fit some classic coker tires on it. Not 100% sure on that yet tho.

lol you crack me up swivel . Ill take your advice once again . What tires do you run and what tires would u suggest 4 me

ive been riding bikes since i was 5 so theres no problem with me keeping my throttle down bud. I just got in an accident last year for the fact i was going to fast -__- DAMN DIRTBIKES lol Lets just say i was hillclimbing and got to the top of the hill and couldnt slow down and the other side was a drop off. Ended up in the hosipital waking with my first question being "where the fuck am i" lol

anyways i think ill go with the bridgestones or metzelers. thanks for the info and ill have to check into the spoked rims. the spoked rims takes alot to make it happen

Yup - spoked rims are only cheap if you find a set of stock rims all ready to bolt on. Building them from scratch, properly will cost you.

$200 for a pair of alloy rims, on a good day (MikesXS used to sell DOT Akront style rims for the XS for $90 each)
$200 for stainless spokes/nipples from Buchanans
$100 for the hubs on eBay or at a swapmeet

I pay someone $45 per wheel to lace/true them. He's the master, does tons of wheels for the local vintage racers, and for $90 a set, I'll pay an expert to do them. Maybe one day I'll take the time to do it myself, but there's lots of other things I'm doing and not paying for so there you go.

So that alone takes you to $600 for a set of nice wheels, + $200 for tires.

It's definitely worth looking for stock wheels in good condition vs spending that kind of money.

Probably right swivel. The sizes looked odd to me and anodized rims are usually OEM, so that makes it GL100 or 1100.

I have the Bridgestone Spitfires on my bike now and i love them...They are great around corners, hwy riding, also they are nice in the rain. Ive never had them slip on me but maybe im just not pushing my bike hard enough ;D Highly recomended rubber though and very decently priced...also you can get them in black letters or raised white letters for more of a "old school" look.

I did think they could be GW rims laced to CB hubs, nothing wrong with that I guess and I imagine the GW rims would mate up to CB750F hubs when spoked correctly.

I wonder if that's what happened and the PO "polished" all the plating off those spokes. It's unusual to see so much surface rust on plated spokes. And people wander why I hate other people's custom touches that they then sell because they couldn't make them work.

I thought they only made H rated 130mph "more than enough for me" spitfires? Did the V rated one come out just recently? I cant seem to find them anywhere online.

What you mean you can't blast and coat spokes?

Mine are :)

Damn im so mind fuc*** on these rims. Ive been told i can just buy ones from an f1 and they will just bolt on i got bjw saying the best route to go to make this work will to use a f1 rear spoked hub from a 75 or 76 f and use a front end from a k but i will lose the dual disc unless i do a conversion or even look for an older gw front end then find my spokes rims to make it work .Then i got other people it shouldnt be to hard and just find spoked rims ready for disc that will just bolt/slip on.

yah those look good to me but the red rim stripe but i dont know why swivel doesnt like it. Blasting gets all the rust off and powder coast is just another form of paint

i think im just going to look for a rear spoked hub from a 1975 or 1976 CB750 F model so i can keep the rear disc and for the front im just going to have to afford to loose the second disc with the new rim and have to change out my triple tree so it works out since the front forks are narrower on my 78

haha yah i understand powder coat is cheap but i see nothing wrong with blasting at all....Yah ive decided im just going to keep the bitch and ride it hard 8). Changing the handle bars, mirrors and grips this week. Ordered a seat to get reholpolsterd and going to change the lights with in the next week and by end of april im going to paint the tank and covers and maybe the rims but im just going to leave it as is and in the future get an older cb maybe a 72 because i love the gas tank on it with the metal gas knob and the side covers and go all out but this bike was a good start for me but next time ill do it the right way since all the stuff i want to do to this bike is going to cost alot of $. The bike is in great condition and i figure after several months i can get my $ back for it.

Yah i know i sound wishy washy but i started jumping the gun way to quick. A big time con of being a kid. Always wanting to rush stuff but need to learn to be more patient and who knows maybe i might just find all the right parts for this bike and might just fall in love with it where i just might end up doing the spoke conversion .

In retrospect, I might have gone a different route, but powder coating spoke wheels is anything but cheap.

I would have delaced them myself, powdered the rims, and bought new spokes. If I need to true them, it's back to the starting board.

Stay with the Comstars. The bike is way safer and will handle and brake much better with them on.Try to find an old F2 seat base to reupholster, don't wreck your stock seat someone would pay cash for it on ebay.F2's are not great but they are very good.

Comstars are no better than spoke wheel, just a lot cheaper and faster to produce.
Honda stated at the time they will flex and feel like spoked wheels
In some instances they are worse than spoked wheels. (corrosion issued, particulaly the early stainless steel spokes, alloy rivets wheels)
There shouldn't be any issue swapping the spoked wheels in, may need to get spacers to line them up right

never heard that about c-stars but like ive stated earlier they just dont have an sporty as a look 4 me personally. Yah i have alot of suggestions but im just going to ride the bike as is and if i find the parts to make the conversion i will go ahead with it. As for my seat bought me an old piece of junk seat for my bike to get worked on and im hoping it turns out like the picture below.

Swivel,
There was never a stock Honda on first gen Comstars that would do even close to 160 (except in KM)
CB750F2 was about the quickest, and, realistically, it was good for about 125 real mph. (not speedometer indicated)
You could fit a 17" wheel and appear to be runing much faster
The Goldwing would register 125 in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear but wouldn't go any faster.
Saying you were doing 160 just decreases your credibility
I guess I should have said compliant rather than flex, if you know even a quarter as much as you pretend to, you'll know that if you CAN feel wheels flexing, your suspension set up -isn't
BTW, just because you have no experience of problems, doesn't mean they didn't happen
Pictures or we all believe your living inside some fantasy world, keep taking the meds ;)
