"Traveler's" 1977 CB550K Cafe build

I like that tank, nice and long!

And I agree with motofiaccone on the pics: think threads like this are a big help for less experienced builders. Great thread!

I agree with these guys, keep em coming. Most of the time I'm at work watching your build on my cell phone which doesn't do it justice. But I always try to check it again when I get home.

Smart-ass comments? Never!

Thanks for the service. Jar head myself. I like the build that seat and tank well you know is amazing. The fins on the engine came out great definitely raw lookin. Keep it up and we're all picture whores so keep em coming.

I received an update on my tank and seat from Sean at Roc City Customs.

Here is a pic. Almost done!

I appreciate all the comments.

I won't be back in town for another week, so everything is on hold for now. :-\

Once I get home, I will start to write down a list of all the small things that need to be finished.

Also, have to decide which way I want to go with the wheels and brakes, have a few different options I am contemplating.

1. open up the slots on my rear swingarm just a tad bit, and install a harley rear wheel and disc brake setup with a 3/4 axle, and then finish the CB dual disc setup on the front

2. XS 650 "lester style" wheels, drum in the rear, either single or dual disc matching XS 650 wheel on the front. (already have a source for this)

3. 9 or 13 spoke harley wheels front and rear with the corresponding larger discs, and retofit on all dual piston harley style brakes.

4. do the same as above, but use NEW drop center 16" and 19" wheels, all chrome off of eBay with some good tyres.

What to do...what to do.... :-\

If I go with a Disc in the rear, I'll fab on some '09 CBR600RR rear sets that have the master cylinder tied on to the rearsets....this is a costly way to go though.

Heck, I may just clean up what I have, throw on some RAASK rearsets and continue on.

Joe i would go with a set of the dyna mags man, you can still run duel front rotors on then and you would only have to machine a adapter plate for the sprocket to go in place of the pulley. i have a set off a dyna i am using on my wifes CB500 cafe build.

another cool thing would be to lace 2 17 in rear dyna wheels to your stock hubs, then get a duel rotor hub for the front... you would still have the drum in back but that is plenty on this light of a bike... plus it would look sick!

Another "thanks for your service" from an old-timer.

As for pics, keep them coming. Threads are much better with pics as it stimulates all our imaginations.

Great looking tank & seat from Sean at RocCity.

Thanks.

Once I'm back in town, I'll post more pics and progress.

If you use a Harley rear wheel, all you have to do is buy a 37 tooth sprocket for that wheel.

except for spacers, it should be a quick swap.

granted a custom alloy rear sprocket is 65 bucks!!! :(

Joe,

This ought to get you started on a sprocket for a Harley hub, or any other hub for that manner.

I had a couple of hours to burn today, so I pulled the coils out, sanded and painted the frame area with the engine block paint, and then re-installed the coils after cleaning them up a bit.

Not much, but every step forwards seems to be a good thing.

Here are a few pics after completion.

I ordered some new sealed wheel bearings for the front and rear wheels from "all balls".

I also sent off a front rotor to Anubus cycle to be cross drilled

I'm going to install, clean up what I have, and move forward.

Now...about some rearsets....... ;D
