VINTAGE LEATHER JACKETS:

Scored this in Chicago over the weekend. Vintage shop was having a sale on their winter clothing and got it for $150.

Im not a fan of hipsters either, but come on... dont hate on the fixxies they ride. They follow the same minimalist concept that drives us to drill holes in everything we can.

p.s. I ride a fixed gear bike.. but Im not a hipster..

Interesting digression....I dont think what people wear is really an issue. Lots of people wear leather that dont ride motorcycles...it is worn by welders, hot chicks, cowboys, construction workers.....and hipsters.

I would be proud of my ride, my hobbies etc...and that other people are dressing well in protective gear, the more chicks in good leather the more you can take for a ride on the back of your bike

Ah, heck, I ain't hatin' on them hipsters. They're just following the crowd. Poor bastards. But no brakes and no toeclips, c'mon.
I usually ride my singlespeed as a fixie in the winter, for better traction control and winter leg strength. But, admittedly, I didn't this year. I have a pernicious habit of coasting down hill.{RIP Sheldon Brown} http://www.sheldonbrown.com/asc.html
As far as motorbikes, I consider myself as more of a mocker.{Thx Ringo} Cafe and studded leather, but I prefer quality 80's BritPop to BritBlues/greaser stuff. And I do have a couple starched shirts on the rack.

seems like a good deal...depends if the leather is awesome or not...

That Buco is hot as all hell!

The new leather Belstaffs I've seen haven't been so great. They're more for fashion than they are for function. The leather is so soft...I can't see them doing well in the off chance you drop your bike. Not that waxed cotton is going to do a helluva lot.

Yes we all want a buco for free..or maybe 50 bucks..so you will have to get on your bike and go to thrift stores for 2 or 3 years and eventually you might find one...then sell it and use to the money to find one your size. The belstaffs are basically fashion jackets...you would be better off buying some cheap 140 dollar made in china jacket than a belstaff jacket. sorry there is the hard truth!!!!

Agreed. The Italian made Belstaffs are just for looks...and even then, they're not shit hot. Their celeb product placement has me feeling a bit ill as well.

Especially this one...

Um, not really meant for motorcycle riding, but it is a vintage leather coat that I had up until a few months ago.

It's a Willis & Geiger horsehide coat with sheepskin collar, and it's from 1948. It was used by a member of 'Operation Deep Freeze', which was a U.S. Navy mapping expedition of Antarctica.
Extremely warm coat (understandably). It's now with its new owner in Hiroshima.

That's a wicked jacket. Don't know why you would sell something like that with a historical connection. Hope you got more than a G-note for it.

Yes, I hesitated too. But, it was taking up room in the closets, I'm trying to streamline things around here, and I made about $500 above what I paid for it. Just the way it goes sometimes.

Hey im new to the fourm and this is my first post but I need some help. I want to find a vintage jacket but im a 3XL and only about 5'6" tall so im big in the middle. Do anyone know of a place that make large size reproductions that I could get till im able to slim down to fit into a real one. Thanks

I have an original Belstaff Trialmaster, and of course it doesn't have anything in terms of padding, though the new ones do have armour (BTW a Forcefield armoured shirt will fit under an unpadded Belstaff, and is actually a nice combination).

As for the resiliency of waxed cotton itself, it is quite strong - a version of it has been used as light, yet tough sail material since the 1800's - and when treated properly it is waterproof. I've been through many a rain storm with my Belstaff Trialmaster and matching pants, and have been comfy and dry underneath.

I too have a vintage Trialmaster jacket and pants. They're tough as nails when it comes to wind and rain, but I'll put my money on the leather when it comes to a 50 foot slide on concrete.
