What is the temp in your shop?

Yup, it's 13 here, and maybe 20-25 in the garage.

While we're on the topic, what would you fine folks recommend for heating a 2 card detached garage? I have 110 / 220 AC, and am thinking of running a natural gas line. I see these wall mount units that look neat, but I wonder if they would raise a 2 car garage up above freezing? I've been scouring Craigslist as well for one of the ceiling mounted Renzor units, but that may be overkill for the space.

I just want to get the space above freezing in the winter so I could occasionally take my gloves off and not freeze to anything metal. It'd be nice to have a warm(er) car in the mornings too...

I see 220 baseboard heaters on cl pretty regularly. They are great for a garage. Use very little space and heat rises so they are pretty efficient too.

I would have never thought of using a baseboard heater - thanks!

No problem amigo.
I use a barel stove and love it, but you have to be tight with your Insurance guy as they do not like them inside. On a detached garage you may be alright.
Costs about 100 bucks total

What ever I set the thermostat at. It might take a while for the ceiling mounted electric unit to get there.
Shop is insulated with a tarp covering the drafty overhead door.

Edit: And you Cali. And Florida guys all suck, it was in the teens today and snowing.

.

Honestly I don't know how you guys do it, Here in California its 8:45Pm and a chilly 55 degrees Im warming the heater now to make sure the whole family stays warm HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Honestly at the start of fall I couldn't work in the garage at 0 Celsius. But now that it's been properly cold for a few months the -10 days feel warm so I fire up the heater for half an hour put on my long johns and I can comfortably work in the garage all day. It's just getting climatized so the not so cold days feel okay hahaha

It's -5c with snow right now... and will drop to -20c later today ...

needless to say.... I will be inside playing Call of Duty all day... ;D

Shop for the composites - currently about 62 F, warm it up to about 72 F when I do lay ups. Electric heat only. Walls are insulated to R20, ceiling R15, floor R13, which helps a lot. Supposed to be going to minus 20 C tonight so I'll probably put on the supplemental heater just to be sure it doesn't get too cold. Working at the Motorcycle Supershow today and Fri, so not doing any fabbing for the next couple of days anyway.
Little metal / fab shop 65 F.
I do my welding and grinding outside so -15 C, same as the garage / store room.
Don't remind me I didn't take that job in Cali when I had the chance...

well it's -38C here today and the garage will be like -20C so I won't be working out there as my borrowed heater is returned for a bit, thank god the GL and the Wheeler projects are in the basement heated side, so I can hopefully do a bit of those tonight.

Ya I was just watching the Weather Network and you guys are gonna get blasted - at least 15 cm snow plus the cold. We lucked out up here in Georgetown this time - the bulk of the storm is sweeping below us.
Pat

Just heard we may get up to 0 C or higher monday with Rain, that will suck with the 4' of snow already on the ground.

After nearly 20cm of snow this week I woke up to 0 and rain this morning. So strange hahaha.

Unheated wood siding garage in MN, so sub freezing when I need to go out there now. I do most of my work over at a community workshop that has big hanging forced air heaters, so stays at 'room temp'. Pretty scary when I bring a toolbox with me in the truck and the tools are still painfully cold to use after sitting inside for a couple hours.

I need to install a central heat and ac system in my garage so I can work in extreme temps. it's about 35 degrees in the garage right now.
After six years of living in this house, the garage should be climate controlled. I'm an HVAC contractor afterall...

It's going to be -7 F tonight, and and then a high of 1 F by Tuesday. Also, we just finished getting 9 inches of snow. Guess who has two arms and left all his electrical install tools in the detached garage and had to make a bunch of trips out there in the wind and snow to finish installing new electrical and data in his house? This whiny asshole! ;D

-18F on the way to work this morning. But mid to upper 60s in my shop. Cooled in summer, heated in winter, unfinished walkout basements rock for shop spaces...

-12f this am. Shop is around 55-60F, except for the bomb room, that's a nice toasty 65-68f.

Painful -12F (-24C) this morning here too.
...thats too cold for LP to exchange to a gas for the propane heater to work long enough to take the chill off the shop... need to go to town and get kerosene for the salamander. ::)
Oh and another 6-12" (15-30cm) of snow on it's way :(
Damn you Mother Nature

Right now it's 50 degrees F. Tomorrow it's supposed to be right at freezing for the high. Not too bad, may go out and finish pulling it apart today. Wish I had a little more than propane heater. Or at least a quieter option, those little forced air heaters are loud! Winter sucks.
