Could be worse...

Freaking cold in Ohio about 4 today but Monday there saying high of 4 with wind chill down to -10 but work shop sits at 70 all winter !!!

Garage sits about 5-8* warmer than outside, so right now, right about 40* out there. Finally got a little fan heater out by the workbench, heats the garage up to "t-shirt and jeans" comfortable temps in about 15-20 minutes.

Ok, yesterday it was -12F, got up this am and it was 18f. That's a 30degF increase. Like going from a comfy, pleasant 70F to a sweltering 100F. So why does it still feel so dam cold!!

^ Aaahhhhhhh, I hate it. Our furnace has not stop running, my feet are frozen, and it looks like the arctic tundra out there . . . I bought over two cords of wood for the fireplace and it is more than half gone . . . I am trying to stay optimistic here . . . it is supposed to be a HIGH of 0 Tuesday.

Its -30c over night here, and its 10c in the garage. A decent working temp with coveralls on.

I would have never thought of using a baseboard heater - thanks!

I wouldn't recommend that. When I built my shop I found two new electric baseboard heaters, one 3' and one 4', at a garage sale and installed them. BIG mistake! :-\ They took forever to heat the area (14 X 20 and well-insulated) to a temp even close to workable and they made the electric meter look like a helicopter. My brother recommended something he called a "milk house" heater and I got one at an auction for $20. I removed the baseboards and mounted an outlet for it; 220v, and the thing is fantastic! When it's on it does spin the meter, but because the fan in it circulates the air it heats the room efficiently and then cycles on and off w/ its thermostat. We have noticed a much smaller effect on the electric bill.

A friend has baseboard heaters and he does always use a box fan to circulate heat.

Bet that would work... well, I've got two nearly new baseboard heaters looking for a new home... CHEAP! North central Ohio, come get 'em.

Oh yeah, it was in the mid 50s in the shop while I was out there this afternoon.

Yeah, same here, non-stop furnace and cold feet. AND to make matters worse the fan motor in the gas fireplace insert died last night AND the garage door opener died. Stuff like this always happens at just the RIGHT time, huh?

My old man is in Williston, ND. Called me this morning with an update of -54. Brrrrrr

My truck battery died while I was in Utah, and when I got back to Nashville at 2am last night the truck wouldnt start, leaving me stranded in the long term parking lot for 2 hours while I waited on AAA.
at -1F it was really, really, really unpleasant.

If the locks hadn't froze, I could get in and tell you.....but it's crazy windy here and windchill is -30F....not a chance I'm getting in.

Well, up to 18f today with the sun shining! Started to melt some of the snow off....which resulted in a roof leak in a backroom. Seems the drain from that section of the roof is frozen solid, leaving standing water on the roof. Just shoveled 18in of snow off the flat roof. About to go attack the drain pipe with a torch.

This is funny.
It got up to 16 and sunny yesterday, and by the end of the day I noticed a puddle of water behind my compressor.
Same thing, the gutter was clogged/frozen so the water came inside instead.
