What was your first bike?

yeah, I went mod to rocker. If I ever get back to a scooter friendly city ill prolly switch again..

1970 Rupp Scrambler , since I live in the city they were made in ,, Paid 200.00 for it new in 71 ;D ;D

My first bike, back in 68, was a 57 tiger 110, with all kinds of Paul Dunstall goodies on it. I loved that bike, did everything right and looked really cool. Wish I had a picture of it now. John.

My first was a 1965 Suzuki 80, rebuilt from the ground at 14. Bored to 100CC, ported, dished piston & trimmed ( further increase of port timing). Ended up with a powerband of about 6500- 11,000, top end about 70mph Wahoooooo! Alas, no pictures survive, spent all my time riding.

I had this early 70s Yamaha 200cc twin 2-stroke. Not the one pictured, but same under a far-out geometric tank mural and even gnarlier expansion chambers than this one. Flicked me off a couple times, screechy little bitch!

My first motorcycle was the famous Yamaha JT-1. On a hot Summer day it would seize about every 15-20 minutes if I rode it hard. Wouldn't start and go again until it cooled way down again!

This is NOT my bike, but mine was just like it and painted light blue with a seat made from an old pair of Blue jeans! Who knew? Levi and Jeep owe me some sort of royalties! ;)

My parents never bought me a bike.... :'(
The first bike I got was a 1982 Kawasaki KDX175.
It was in pieces!!!! A complete basket case!
I put it together with VERY little help. I think someone helped me put the cylinder on....
Paid $0 for it, put a couple hundred into it, sold it for $500.

Second bike was a mint condition all original 1500 miles 1976 KZ400D3.
Bought it for $40, sold it for $860. Wish I still had it.

Third bike was an '84 XR200R. Bought for $700, traded for an EX250 for the girlfriend.... then traded for a CB750..... girly didn't like the bike :-\

Then a '94 CBR600 that I owned for a week (long story), then a '95 CBR600 that was an ex-race bike. Thing had 115 horse power to the wheel. That thing was nuts!!!!
Owned that until my buddy was killed, then I started collecting old crap.

Now I got like.... 14 bikes..... Hey! could be worse!!! My buddy has 250 bikes!!!!!

Dude, that's not worse, that's better! ;D

(welcome to the mad-house)

First was the purple Rupp Roadster, then I learned how to ride clutch on a '52 Aguila scooter (twist shift), then I traded a Hutch Trickstar for a 79 Honda XR75, then KX80, then CR125, then KX500, then 78 Husky 390, then 86 Husky 250, then 73 Husky 450, then Harley 883, sold to buy 1200, sold to help house downpayment now XS650 and Norton commando project. I still have the Husky 450 and the Rupp, which is now a basket case. The scooter is in my dads garage and hasn't been started in probably 25 years.

1981 Yamaha Seca 750....i really liked that bike ;D
untill my front tire went flat doing 120 southbound on the DVP....ouch :(

First bike: Honda SL70.
Saved up my newspaper money and bought it for $175 when I was 13. I didn't tell my parents I bought it until I needed my dad to pick it up for me. In Quebec you needed what they called a "P" plate to ride on the trails. The bike didn't have a title and my dad couldn't be bothered with the hassle of getting one. Being a wise man, he told me that if I were ever to see a cop, to high-tail it to the nearest wooded are and disappear. More importantly he told me not to say anything about it to my mom! That was the start of a long history of evasion. ;)

Second bike was an RM125. Everyone thought my parents were crazy letting me ride that thing - I couldn't even touch the ground on it! I like the photo of the RM.... what was my mom doing with my bike???? I remember the provincial police coming to my school one time looking for me after they chased me on the RM over 2 counties..... in the middle of winter! Chumps never had enough evidence and were just fishing. Apparently they got close enough the read my name on my helmet.

My first bike was a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 bought around 1998.

My 2nd bike was a 1972 Honda CB350 bought in 1999.

Neither bikes I have and I still regret getting rid of my CB350 :(

My first bike was a 94 FZR600R that I bought from my buddy after he laid it down. Paid $200 for the bike and spent about $300 on fleabay getting mounts, plastic and gauges and rode the piss out of the bike and scared the piss out of myself for about 2 years before the oil pump went out at about 8K (that was insane).

Next bike was a 93 GSXR1100 I bought two days after the FZR crapped out. Rode that for a little over a year before I got smart and realized that I was either going to kill myself on it or rack up some serious legal fees so I sold it before either happened (amazingly I never got a ticket on either of the bikes, but I'm pretty certain I had the helicopters looking for me more than once....)

After selling the GSXR MadMaxx showed me the light and I got into the vintage stuff, landing me on my 77 kz650 b1, been riding that for two seasons now and currently doing the cafe conversion on it.

Interesting sidebar, the FZR (R.I.P.) has donated parts to more than one of MadMaxx's projects over the years. The front fairing and stays were modified for his second CBR600 to pull off a RC30 look (which worked really well) and the forks, brakes, clip ons and rear suspension are all going to be on his FZRH2 project.

1971 Suzuki TS185 before & after, I was 15 and had a great time ripping around the woods in NW Montana

That RC30 look-a-like was pretty cool. I don't miss that bike though.... That thing was a burned up wiring harness waiting to happen....

The H1 project will be cool..... if I ever finish with it....

I'll list them in order;

1) Hard tail chopper mini-bike w/ a 5hp tecumseh. Bought it at a garage sale for $35!

2) First real motorcycle I rode was my best friends Hodaka 100cc Super rat.

3) First of my own was a mid-late 60's (unsure of year) Ossa 250 street/trail. My oldest brother needed $$$ for college. Boy did he see me coming! The few times I actually got it to run were great. Unloaded it after a year of learning how to get a 2 stroke running! I recouped $50 in the sale, as well as unmeasurable amounts knowledge.

4) First street bike was a '74 Yamaha TX500. Bought it from my brother in law, who bought it new, for the price of a washing machine.

5) First NEW bike (and only new bike) I ever bought was a '82 Suzuki GS550MZ Katana. Bought it new, still in the crate in Feb of '84 for $1699 out the door! Rode this bike in Georgia, Germany and upstate New York.

6) Mid life bike is my '76 XS650C. Brought it back from the dead, rode it for 3 years, now turning it into a cafe. Thinking about trying a school, some track days and AHRMA racing in the next year or two with it. I did say Mid-life didn't I? ;D

7) Picked up a great '80 XS850SG 2 years ago as a better daily rider and for those longer rides. I just can't see spending $10K or more for new when there are all of these great bikes out there for realtively little $.

My goal now is to find a good XS11 standard, and then a SR500. Then I'd have the complete Yamaha set- single, a twin, a triple and a four cylinder! If I keep sneeking them in every 2-3 years the wife will never know ;)

Matt
