What's going on now over at Ichiban Moto ?

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I want to thank you for the how to videos. On so many levels there is something that can be learned by everyone.
Your dedication, ingenuity and creativity are off the scale. I watched an old timer use a razor the way you do and I always thought it was genius or insanity. Not sure which. Keep up the great work!

Love the wiring video. I have the same wire strippers.

Thanks for generating such an interesting and thought provoking discussion, and generating loads of page views and hits to the website for us.

That wiring video is pure genius. ;D

I especially love how you remembered to run power to the points. So many guys forget that important step and then they're forced to use the stock condensor.

Awesome progress. Just about ready to fire up. With your awesome skills why not rig the single carb to run all cylinders?

Several guys on the virago tech forum are using intake manifolds made of PVC or copper pipe. Just throwing it out there.

You'll want a larger carb of course. Might grab something off an old car.

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I think an Edelbrock 1404 would be about the right size. 500cfm carb, 500cc engine, sounds like a match made in heaven to me!

LOL, nice math.... 8)

Good thing it isn't a 1000cc, he would need a 1000 CFM carb, which might be bigger than the motor.... ;D

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

They both have the number 500 and at least one "c" in their description.

I'm pretty disappointed this isn't for real. Thought rocan had started a new build thread.

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Made some more progress yesterday and I finally have the complete wiring harness installed back on the café racer. I plugged the new wires into the battery and tested all of the connections and lights. Everything looks good !

I also changed the oil and filter so when that missing carb part arrives, I will be ready to add some gas to the tank and take her for a test ride ! :D

I put a video on youtube of the wiring:

I googled Andy Kaufman.... I don't see the connection between him and building custom café racers ???

I think you found the wrong Andy Kaufman. The guy he was talking about used to build choppers back in the 50s and 60s, then moved on to cafe racers in the 70s when the growth of Japanese bike brands enabled the cafe bike scene to come into existence.

He's not very well-known but was a huge influence behind the scenes. You won't find any info on him on the Internet. He actually worked out the back of a taxi shop in NYC most of his career; if you go to Brooklyn and ask around, someone might be able to clue you in by word-of-mouth.

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I have got to get one of those electrical testers.

With one of them, you can literally never go wrong.

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

itchy ! i am pretty sure the green tester is only for latent radio freakwenseas, but whatever
on my BSA the oil is pretty much factory set to auto-matikally drain at a variable rate
as a matter of fact i even use some small diapers under the cranckase in order to keep the rear tire from getting too shiny, these are awesome mods that you could also perfom, keep up the good work, itch

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Love the oil change part, almost died laughing when you took the drain bolt out and no oil came out, too funny.

Also, the video lets us all in on a little secret that two stroke oil is the bomb and you can use it in anything.
