What's going on now over at Ichiban Moto ?

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Bahahaha! Chinese standard crescent wrench. That video had me rolling.

You live in Tejas and don't have a Colt? Next thing you're going to tell me you don't have any spurs.

I left my spurs in San Antonio

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

given the ongoing homage to Andy Kaufman, i nominate this bike to be named "Mighty Mouse"

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

He needs a metric Hammer too....The easiest way to strip a philips head screw is using a Standard hammer on it instead of metric.

The different adjustables are n;t as needed. I have a nice Adjustable wrench that says 12in on one side, 300mm on the other, so it can be used on both....more of a universal adjustable. I used to keep bot h metric and standard adjustables, but now that I found these dual mode ones, I don't need to carry as many wrenches around.

I need to add to the safety list. He painted the top of the headlight chrome. This is a BIG No-No. The reality is the top of the headlight is the part that actually directs light down to the ground. He is using the wrong half of the light. A much more safe approach is to paint the bottom half of the light. Not only does it not reduce light to the ground, but also is much safer as it reduces glare to oncoming traffic. I am hoping he reads this and corrects that major faux pas.

Otherwise an awesome build. I often wondered what effort was needed for a bad-ass cafe racer. Unfortunately, I do not have the insight and creativity to make a bad-ass cafe racer (or "Coffee Racer" as I have seen on other threads). Without the skill and creativity, I had to settle for a stock restoration. I which I had seen this build before I started mine, as I believe I would be able to duplicate the effort here. I only have standard vise grips though, so any future mods will need to wait on my having the funds (and Harbor Freight having a good sale) to buy those wonderful china made metric tools.

Excuse me now wow I wipe the moisture from my face.

Ichiban, you are AWESOME! I only wish I had been the one to nominate your build for BOTM...Wait, Bike of the Year!!! Instructional Video of the year too!!!

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I am ripping all the video's and am going to turn this into a movie.

Paramount pictures haven't replied yet....don't know why.

I googled Andy Kaufman.... I don't see the connection between him and building custom café racers ???

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I'm still on the lookout for the carb part I need to get the engine going. Until I can find one, I will continue with the mods and customizing.

I spent some time modifying the rear suspension so it's balanced with the upgrades I already completed on the front . The overall bike stance has that sick café racer look and the performance/ handling will be awesome ! I can't wait to take it on the first test ride :D

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

Nice touch the old hand drill through the frame tube trick. An as always, just enough pseudo logic for it to sound almost plausible.

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

uhhhhhhyeah  anyhow Hey ichiban FYI the shock is on upside down ,just trying to help, you know safety first! :-\

Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build

I liked how you tried to mount the shock off the wrong point and later dropped your shock a few feet to the ground.

Watching this makes me so sad; donor bikes are hard to find in Australia and someone else could have actually done a nice job with the build. You're making a death trap.

Did you not view the last 9 pages? This is a joke, a satire, a comedy. I believe something nice will suddenly appear or in truth the motor is junk and it will end up in a parts bin like 90 percent of projects. Will this end as a tragedy or a comedy?? Only the poster knows :)
