Wife Bike - CB100

Looking good! If you have time after your gift presentation, why not take apart the wheels to make it easier to clean? Not sure where you live, but up here in Michigan it's wrenching season anyway. Plus, you can really cleanup every part and relacing/retrying isn't too hard. It's a good skill to add to your "bag of tricks".

On a side note, with all the peeps here adding seat hoops, it makes make me glad I went with the XL frame that has an oem seat hoop.

The wheels arnt worth taking apart and cleaning. The rims are pitted really bad so they would have to be replaced and so would the spokes. So, for now ive just sanded them down and painted the best I could. If she really enjoys it and we start taking it places I might look into getting some new wheels for it.

Remembered today that we loosened a lower bolt on one of the forks so I went to tighten it. Ends up we stripped the piss out of it with the impact screwdriver when we took it out. Its 100% ruined so now I have to look for a 'new' right fork bottom. Kinda took the wind out of my sail.

Sat everything together so it looks like a bike and im calling it quits for now. Here is where she sits, mission failed.

That sucks about the fork.

When you do look for wheels or rims, check out eBay seller 250champ. He sells 18x1.40 alloy rims for only $40. Spokes can be saved. Sandblast and zinc plating is sometimes cheaper than new ones. Zinc plate a shoebox full of hardware (nuts, bolts, spokes, tools, brackets, etc) for about $80 or so.

Well, the wife liked her present but also didn't like it at the same time. Shes always wanted to learn to ride but now that she has a bike (though not yet running) the reality of it was sort of scary for her. My mother actually bought her a leather riding jacket as well so she's all set now. Just have to wait until ABATE fires up their training course in the spring.

I know the feeling. My girlfriend kept saying she wanted to learn so I resurrected my old Honda Rebel for her. Once I got it going though she's all scared and will barely ride it. Maybe I need to save up some money and send her to a training course.

Training course is 100% the way to go. No arguments and they will listen to a copmplete stranger instead of their husbands way easier. There were a lot of women in my class and they all went from scared and nervous to at least competent and some were excellent riders by the end.

I got my wife a Spree. Can't get any safer two wheeler than that. The first time she got on that was scary for me too. You know the feeling when you see them twist the throttle and they take off out of control without letting off the throttle while you scream "let go of the throttle"!! Yikes!

Oh, well. You still have to finish it up. We'll keep watching! Maybe now that she's not in a rush to ride, you can really take time to finish it.

Courses are definately good. I dont know about everywhere, but the basic courses I have seen you use their bikes. And the nice slow simple step by step they use is great. I was taught by my dad, but since joining the military I've taken alot of courses and they teach alot of good habits that you forget after years of riding. I'm sure after she has the class she will be having a blast on the cb.

My dad taught me as well, but I then took a course with Mothgills and I really enjoyed it. I dont think I could really teach her to ride. In my class there were to old ladies in their 70s likely that had never driven a bike before, so if they can teach them, then they sure as well can teach my wife.

Yeah, when I was in the army I had to take a riding course in order to register my bike on post. I had already been riding for five years when I took the course and I still learned a ton. A husband and wife team taught the course and demonstrated all the maneuvers on Honda Goldwings. They could do things on a Goldwing that I don't think I could do on a scooter.

Keep up the updates on this scoot, I really want to see what it turns into.

Well,

This thing hasn't been worked on forever. The wife decided she was to scared to take the ABATE class by herself, and she says she would be to nervous for me to take it with her so shes kinda given up. Took the steam out of my sales. That and the rear hoop hit the tire, the front tire was the wrong size, and rear adjusters I bought were the wrong size. So, I took some time off.

Still going to finish this, give the wife another chance to decide if she wants to ride, and worst case try to sell it at barber this year. There was some more progress this last week. Mothgils came over to the 'shop' and help with some more fab work.

Got the rear hook tilted up to gain more clearance, got the batter tray on, and the battery 'box' fabbed up.

Need to get the turn signal mounts on and the license plate mount on and I think the fab work will be done. Just touch up the paint on the frame, get it wired up and paint the tank and plastics and its done (thats still an ass ton of work). Ordered $250 more parts today so hopefully expect some more progress soon. Want to have it FINSIHED by MotoGP this year and that's just over a month away, so we'll see...

Good Luck! I just picked one of these fuckers up myself... Looking for inspiration but think Im going to keep it pretty close to stock.

I can sympathize. My girlfriend kept saying she wants to learn to ride so I revived an old Honda Rebel for her. Now I can't ever get her to go out and practice on it.

Got alot more work done the last two days. Big shipment of parts means big amount of work to complete.

Since no one makes parts, I had to buy what I could and make it fit. Took me along time to find headlight ears that would actually fit on the small front shocks, when I put them on the headlight suck out way to far, so off to the grinder to make them look right. On the left is the original, on the right is after I was done with the first.

Cut down the original speedo bracket to fit my new small speedo and keep it up tight

Here you can also see the original headlight bracket off to the right

Extended all the wires from the new stator so that I could run then up through the frame

And started finally getting to all the wiring, looks like a mess right now, but thats just because I have lots of wires ran through the frame, need to solder them together and shorted them up and it'll all look good.

Sweet Man! Did you color code the extension on the wires or are they just black?

They are all just black. I looked online for a few days and couldn't find anyplace to buy colored wire in less than 50' and it was all really high priced.. If you know of someplace though, I'm not to far in to rip out what I've done.
