The day we brought Winston and his scraggly brother and sister home...
Winston's first time in the garage.
The next step was to start stripping of all of the ugly. This is my first time doing much work on a bike...using tools, etc. So I was super excited with my first piece removal!
This was after a couple hours of work...I removed the scary handle bars, luggage rack, foot pegs, and the back bender all by myself!
Hooray for the first day of work!
I should also probably mention that the rest of the bike is located on Winston's brother and sister, as well as some boxes of parts that came with the bikes. Can't wait to have it done! My main man CafeMatty will be helping me with a lot of the technical aspects of the rebuild, but I hope to learn a lot along the way!
there's about 40 thousand of us on this forum with 360s so you and winston are in good company and there'll be lots of people to help answer questions. welcome!

After removing all of the extra bits of the bike, the next thing to go is the motor. Unfortunately the screws on the crank case weren't playing nice so it's off to Autozone to pick up a impact driver.
We thought we might be able to just take it off by removing the chain, but no dice.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to clean this bad boy up, or get a tasty nice new chain.
I have some pretty big plans for progress this weekend, and can't wait to spend most of it in the garage next to my space heater!
Let me know how that calcium lime and rust remover works. The inside of my kawasaki z1 900 has some rust but nowhere near as bad as yours. Great progress so far. I'll be watching this build for sure.

I helped her a bit with that tank today... The stuff inside isn't rust. It's some bubbly grimey crap that flakes off to reveal gorgeous silver underneath. I suspect it's some kinda tank liner someone else had put in there wins ago. From what I've read, that Zep (avail at Home Depot for 10 bucks) works WONDERS. It's mentioned in some other threads I believe.
My buddy has a cb750 chopper and when we first picked it up the inside was filled with whatever the inside of her tank is filled with. Some people just shouldn't be allowed near bikes ........ lol.
Re: Winston: My CB360 Project (new fiberglass seat)
This is how the day started out:
Cafematty grinded off all the unused metal bits from the frame to trim it down to the minimum.
While he was busy with that I cleaned up and stripped the swing arm since I didn't get to that yesterday.
Then the fun stuff happened!
I call this Frankenfoam.
Building up the blocks.
Carving it up like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Carving complete! I found my best friend after cutting down all of the excess was to use a plain jane razor that I raided from my bathroom. It allowed me to get a much smoother shape than I could have any other way.
Prepping the taped foam.
Hooray!! Wet fiberglass!
I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to sand it smooth! Pretty good progress for today!
