None of the tricks worked. Bench bled again, held the hose above the master as you recommended, and nothing. It just wont move from the master through the line. I met a guy here with a speed bleeder kit, so I'll give that a shot. If I fail again, then I have bigger issues.

Plunger in the maser is furked up... long nose snap ring pliers inspect the bore and if good get a rebuild kit.

Long nose is needed most of the time

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Based on the info I've read, the brake fluid should flow freely without the lever pulled. Once the lever is pulled it will apply pressure to the fluid, but will also block the passageway for the fluid from the res. That being said, when I bench bled the master, I got fluid move when pumping the lever, but without the lever applied, very little fluid was coming out. Not sure if this helps diagnose the issue or not...

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

yepper ,if you can't bench bleed a master cylinder in 2-3 minutes , it is fucked and you gota tear it down inspect/repair as toona says ;)
dont waste yer monie on the speed blleader kit they are an uneeded gimmick

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Sorry, didn't mean to say speed bleeder. It's a full brake bleeder kit, and it's a friends. So I won't be wasting any time on it.

So just to be clear... once you have bench bled the master, brake fluid SHOULD be flowing freely WITHOUT the lever pulled.

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Back to the bike... it's been a while since I posted a pic.

Here she is, just missing the gas tank (picking up tomorrow), shift lever bracket (picking up tomorrow), and brakes (obviously)...

Then it'll be on the tuning, and riding.

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Hey, Treitz-

Here's what I used after installing new double lines on my front brakes:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/One-Man-Brake-Bleeder-Syringe-for-Aircraft-Cars-Trucks-Motorcycles-ATVs/271891381908?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Dd525403286a94b9d8c1678ba12b977a3%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D281648122021

It's only $18 including shipping, and it perfectly filled my brake system with fluid from the bottom up in 10 minutes or so, making further bleeding unnecessary.

I can't recommend it highly enough, and a lot of eBay buyers left similar feedback.

I think that is what my buddy has. We'll see how it goes. Thanks!

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Just go to a pharmacy or a vet and get a 50cc syringe. It'll do exactly the same job as that kit and will only cost you about $2

Whilst the system is dry, take out the bleed nipples and wrap some teflon / plumbers tape around the threads. Then you can draw the fluid out with the syringe and no bubbles will come through the threads (this can trick you into thinking there's still air in the caliper).

Start by pushing the fluid up through the bleed nipple and into the reservoir. Once you get fluid into the reservoir, draw it back down the line by pulling the syringe. Keep going each way until you get bored / there's no bubbles coming out.

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Alright... the results are in. The tool he has is actually a vacuum bleeder. So it creates vacuum and pulls fluid through the line from the reservoir. Worked just fine on the back. However on the front, I am still just pulling air through the system, and very very little fluid. All symptoms are pointing at a bad seal in the master cylinder. So I guess I'll start there.

Teflon was added to the bleed screw threads, so I can't think of another leak location.

Huh... majin that

Before I order a kit, will I be able to tell exactly what needs replaced when I take it apart, or do I just need to order the rebuild kit and put it all back together? Here is the kit (I think): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Master-Cylinder-Rebuild-ZR1000-Z1000-2003-2004-2005-ZX636-Ninja-ZX6R-2005-/181747259358?hash=item2a50fb17de&vxp=mtr

I can't remember if my front end is from a 2005 or 2006 :/

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Take it apart and match the parts to the kit, I just ate a GT550 kit because it seems it changed mid year... This way you can see if it is in fact the rubber parts and not a bore issue.

I did a 10 second search and found the master on an entire right side clipon with controls for $50... always buy all you can for the money and spares build up for future use  http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-08-KAWASAKI-NINJA-Zx6-ZX6R-ZX600P-RIGHT-SIDE-CLIP-ON-HANDLEBAR-WITH-SWITCHES-/261808027701?hash=item3cf4f97835&vxp=mtr

That's not a bad deal. I hadn't seen any that cheap. I'll keep that in mind...

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Need to get it outside so I can take some pics with lighting, but here are a few from a garage session the other night with the tank. Powder coating job is pretty shotty, but it'll do for now. I'll have to re-do it again eventually. Probably go with paint next time. It's hard to even tell what color it really is in photos, but it's a little lighter than I had hoped.

Really love the seat though.

Pulled it apart last night. I honestly don't see anything noticeably wrong with it... but I'm also not sure what I'm looking for. I guess buying that complete replacement would probably be the best bet (assuming that one isn't broken too).

Whats the bore look like, any pitting or gouges init?

Not that I noticed... but I'll look again. It looked pretty clean.

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

Always the possibility something was lodged in the plunger... put it all back together with a good cleaning and see if it works?

Sure worth a shot. thnx

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork

I also found the OEM part number from Kawasaki and I get a replacement for less than $50 shipped: http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/kawasaki-piston-comp-brake-43020-0012-part.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwtYSsBRCDx6rM1v_uqmsSJAAZgf2qUP6uV7jaKukJBTs1EODIlX5G-JLV5AYPQV3tZ5qVjhoCZKzw_wcB

At least that way I know I will be working with a brand new setup instead of another old master that COULD need rebuilt. But we'll see how mine functions after a good cleaning and putting it back together.
