Yet Another 400F build

Here's the diagram I used to do mine (based on Steve's):

If you get a 5 post relay for the main power, you can run a flashing LED when the unit is off, simulating an armed alarm system ;) I was going to run a green LED to indicate power on, but the dash lights up at that point anyway.

I was sitting on the fence as to whether or not to take the tank on to a painter to shoot the final clear coat, because I wasn't able to keep the dust out of it. Anyway, the weather to day was perfect for painting, so I thought I'd give it one last try:

I'm happy with how it turned out ;)

F&@k yeah!!!!

Awesome ;)

Time to pull the finger out Ed. By my reckoning we have the 2 longest-running 400F builds around here. You've got about 3 months I think before the record is yours ;D

I'm calling this one done. Took it for a quick squirt, and there's a few little nigely things to take care of, but I reckon we're good to go.

Bwahahahahahaha, I'll smash that easily ;)

Hope my paint turns out like yours though. That 400 of yours is looking slick.

Wow! really looks nice!

The bike turned out great!! :)

Hi guys, the story continues.

As part of an attempted tune-up, I pulled the carbs and checked the float-levels. I ended up having to adjust #2 and#3, which were a little high (aiming for 21mm).

When it was all back together and running, I noticed a puddle of unburnt fuel forming below the collector box:

The motor runs OK, but seem to be down a bit on power, and 'struggling' a bit. I just get the sense it's not running as good as it should. Plugs are a bit on the black side, but dry. All was well before I adjusted the levels.

Has anyone come across this before?? Should I lower the float level a fraction?

cheers

Are all the plugs the same or is one 'damper'
Could also be fuel collected previously and now getting pushed out?
Check engine oil level in case crankcase is 'filled up' (make sure bike is vertical)

Hmm. Just pulled all the plugs, and you're right. #1 looked decidedly wet :-(.

Seems to be a constant drip.

Motor has just built and ran fine until I fiddled with the carbs, so I'm hoping its a reversible condition.

(probably) sent from my shed using my iPhone and Tapatalk

The plot thickens. It seems #1 isn't firing at all. Exhaust remains cold. Checked plug and there's a good solid spark, but replaced it anyway. Same thing. Just because I could, I put the carbtune on it to see if that held any clues:

Looks good to me? So I have Suck, Squish, (spark) but no Bang :(

At a bit of a loss really?

Going to have to pull carbs again and re-check shut off valve, float height, and look for any debris in fuel system.
If 4 is running 1 has to have spark - double lead coils can't fire just one side (unless there is a fault)
You already said you have good spark so it's probably flooding before it can fire

+1 to that. Probably leaking through the float valve. Float may be hanging up or there may be a spec of dirt in there.
