706mph ground speed, on a Boeing 747 transitting over Calgary AL Canada. Had a 155mph tailwind. Circled over Toronto for half an hour before we could land, we got there so early.
Pat Cowan,
Vintage Motorcycle Fiberglass.
OTT, Taurus SHO 140-ish mph, Yamaha 350, 115mph or so...
\LO :D :D L thats like goinig like the speed of a Guinness on a W.E.B pub night :p :p :p :p

OK, here we go......most, if not all of you will not believe the biggest part of this, but, truth is stranger than fiction........ 30 mph on my Schwinn 3 speed (timed by a neighborhood kid on his Honda 90) and pulling hard until it slipped out of gear and slammed my nuts on the crossbar......45 mph on my Honda Mini-trail 70 (indicated) going down a big hill with a tailwind. 65 mph (indicated) riding two up on Rusty Clark's 90 Suzuki with my pillion screamin' his head off.......45 mph on my hotted up mini-bike (clocked by a Mustang)....... I will leave out most of my autos .....130+ on my GS750 (79') drafting behind my smart ass buddy's Yamaha 1100, was clocked by Ky State Police @ 125 at a later date. I worked with his wife and she said he clocked me but there was no way he could catch me and didn't try...... 120 mph (indicated @ redline) on my old KZ900 and it was not stock, so don't believe the 135 in third gear stories....... 95 mph indicated on my Royal Enfield 500 after new exhaust, jetting, and K&N air filter (probably about 80-85)...... 118 mph indicated on BMW 900/6.. ... 125 mph, indicated, on my BMW R90S..... 110 mph (indicated) on my hopped up iron head sportster.... 110 mph on my 883 sporty.....etc.....etc.... 155 indicated on my 06' 600 Yamaha......127mph on my paso, 131 mph on my Ducati 750S...... and probably the fastest on a motorbike on my Ducati 851 Superbike at an indicated 150 mph while smokin' my buddy's v-rod. In planes, 400+ mph about 300 ft above the ground following Rt 23 from Greenup to Southshore Ky in a friend's MIG. As for the auto part...... on the night I sold my 427 COPO Camaro SS (back in 74') I ran the speedo past the 120 mark......past the little AC mark in the center of the speedo...... and up past the zero mark.....ever how the hell fast that is. Now the scariest high speed run was three weeks ago......100+ in my pal's old 70's V-8 Bronco, he was driving.....and.....uhhhh.... we were both drunk...... oh the shame of it all.......

Coming out of lurk mode here, tempted by this thread. I guess I have or had a slight speed fetish and had to do at least one max speed run with every bike I've ever owned or got a chance to do it with (and there have been a lot of them). 125 mph indicated on my new 1974 R90S. 130 mph on the Simi Valley Freeway on a Yoshimura Z1 that later ran 150mph at Bonneville (sadly, not with me riding it). Past 100 mph countless times on everything including my '86 Harley Softtail Custom which maxed at an indicated 108 mph. 130 mph any number of times on my Aprilia Caponord and Falco and one blast to 150+ mph on my Falco. 156 mph in an Audi S4 on the test track is my absolute fastest.

The Falco more or less cured me of speeding, not because it scared me or that I didn't want to go faster but because I realized at some point my luck would run out and I'd either crash and die or wind up in hand cuffs. Death doesn't scare me but at my age it's a poor time in life to wind up in jail. My current ride, a humble Kaw 900 cruiser, doesn't really entice me to speed, I can't imagine that it would be much fun with the big barn door windscreen and saddlebags. I may yet build a cafe racer and try to re-live my youth though.

Doug

0 mph on my CB550 (hope to change that this spring)
100ish- '02 Suzuki Canatuna
100 - 02 SV650
125 - my old 04 VW GTI
140+ - passenger in a 04 Subaru WRX STi with big turbo

I believe it, I've done around 30mph riding downhill on my BMX hitting about 25 foot gap jumps. Scary but fun!

;) Scary......not very.... of course I wasn't jumping anything at that speed. Sure did a lot of jumpin', rollin' around, and hollerin' after mashing the boys on the crossbar then finally sliding to a stop. Good thing I was wearing appropriate clothing...... Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink T, bermuda shorts, and, of course, Converse tennis shoes.......

165mph 01 GSXR 1000, chasing a Ducati on the 280 from San Jose to SF. He just plain out rode me, the bike had more go than I did.

142mph 93 Suzuki Katana 600, was pretty decently modified. Was showing off like a idiot to some friends on a closed section of road.

105mph 78 GS750, current bike, I ran out of road and started to get the wobbles. I have since changed out my shot swing arm bearings.

135mph turbo charged 90 Miata, Thunder Hill raceway, Laguna Seca, Sears Point

121mph NA 89 Miata Thunder Hill, and 101 freeway

105mph 63 VW 23 Window bus on the I80 from San Jose to Sears Point. Buds and I were headed to a Goodguys event and passed a Vette like he was standing still. The look on the vette owner's face was priceless.

I think we are a bit naughtier on this side of the water........

I have owned R1s since 99, and never gone out to see just how fast they will go, but I have seen 175 on the bike below !

My C4 Vette gets a bit jumpy at high speeds, and wont stop, but I have been about 155 many times, racing Subarus and other hot hatches.

I did have a 540 BMW.....4.4 V8 and 290 bhp. What a car ! (no pic of this one). It had the restrictor removed, and the needle went about 3/4 of an inch past the 155 when wasting some super hot Renault. By the time the clock got there, he was a dot on the horizon behind me...hahaha !

Scariest.....seeing 120 on my old T500........

More than the law allows on everything I have owned in the past 60 years except my lawn mowers--and if I could have figured out a way to "ungovern" them, would have broken the law on them as well.bj

swap the pulley on the differential and the engine and then a seperate clutch pedal and theyll do 35 all day long, my friend and i had one in high school that we put a 24.5hp engine in and swapped the pulleys and we probably did close to 50 in 6th gear. we always drove it around town and got pulled over on it lol.

Lessee...bench racing.....

On my last roadworthy XS850 just a hair over 130 on highway 84 in eastern Oregon
On the SuperIII, 172 transponder verified at PIR
The Neon from hell hit 130 before it started feeling floaty, somewhere in E. Oregon
68mph down Bald Peak mountain on a KMX recumbent tadpole.....terror, pure terror

Fastest on a bike was My GS1150...Lietner and Bush did the motor.. I had $15,000 into that bike... Used to go from QEW and Yonge to Lundy's lane in Niagra falls in 24-28 min... The one time I got stopped, the cop said He clocked me just shy of 300kph...Of course He couldn't prove it was Me as He finally caught up to Me 20 min after I arrived....How stupid We are in Our Youth..

Jesus.. I don't even know why one would want to achieve some of these speeds? I can see in a controlled environment like El' Marage, Boniville or some sort of race track. But on public roads? I'm sure I role a little over a hundred here and there. But jeeeezzz, some of these speeds listed are insane for public road riding. SOME OF THEM ARE COMPLETE BULLSHIT TOO.... I wonder if some people remember when they are typing there fish-tale, that there not talking to some drunk bitch in a bar. And lying there ass off isn't going to get them laid here...?

I am a little suprised at how few members have been past the 150 mark!

I am a speed freak and don't remember all the high speed runs, but my personal best is on my old CBR929RR, "slightly" modified..........around 180 mph, I always stopped looking at the speedo after 160 or so, but there were a few times I eased out and glanced down to see it rapidly decelerating and being in the 170's! That bike was faster than anything an upper teen and early 20's male needs....and thats why I sold it! One of the few good decisions I made in that era of my life! Wish I had it back now though!

Hahhaha I know Louie. I have don the ton a couple times on both my 450 and the GL, I think I hit 125 MPH on the big girl once, but normal cruise speed for me is 70-80 MPH. I really have no desire to go much faster as one ticket here now adays and you loose your license, big fines and your insurance would triple. I like paying $600 a year for 2 bikes.

Me too, I love bicycling but my lower back just gets beaten to death on a standard, even my FSR is rough after 10-15 miles. The recumbent got rid of most of that pain and it is a riot, like a gokart!
It was really stable up to about 55-60 on the digi, but after that it got really twitchy and the one I was on was 1st gen with no suspension so every little nub and bump meant air time.

That being said, one of my first projects with the new welder will be a ped/gas hybrid tadpole based on Lifan 150cc laydown, 14" minimoto front wheels and an 18"yz125 rear. This one will have suspension. There's a loophole (for a while) regarding ped/gas conversions and not needing to be licensed. 50cc and under is ok....I'll just remark the engine as 50cc.

3wheel chain drive and triple discs!

Oh here's and alternative....

speaking personally, my highest speeds are at PIR (Portland Int'l Raceway), closed course etc. The stuff in Eastern Oregon is high desert with no traffic for miles....
I don't feel like risking OTHER PEOPLE'S lives.....mine on the other hand....

Oh I hear ya Swag. I use to do a fair share of drag raging. 1st at @ Erwin Dale 1/8th mile. Then after I moved up north, I ran a bit @ Firebird here just outside of Boise. Both in a cage. It just blows me away what some people will do I guess...? No wonder every Mom on the planet thinks motorcycles are dangerous, ha ha... I guess I have (unfortunately) been down enough to have developed a large respect for the combination of speed and public traffic. And I consider my self to be a fairly aggressive rider. I'm not trying to start a safety dispute @ all. I do how ever find it rather entertaining that the post by builder/riders that a"actually" build and race performance machines have some of the lower posted speeds compared to the posts of our average Joe. For instance the I believe the record in 08' LSR for a APS-BG Hayabusa @ Bonneville was 242.5 mph. But we have members going 209 and pulling on a stock one... Funny
