Some of my bike builds and work on my C10 has put this dude on hold. Then when I found a good deal on a 700r4 for my truck that had a 305 attached, this car came back into the fold. The 305 was supposed to be a 350, and sitting on it was going to piss me off. I had considered running the 305 in my truck while I built its 350 into a 383, but decided instead to go with 2.02 heads and to run it for at least another year. That made the 305 without a home. It’s a low mileage engine out of a G10 van and needed little work. I gave it a quick hone and some fresh rings, then bolted it together with a Performer intake a cam and HO heads. Despite their lack of respect, this setup should be good for something near 240hp. Should still be fun in a 1500lb car. Regardless, it should give me more smiles than the 283. Eventually, I’ll build a 350 for this car, or I’ll just play with turbos or who knows. It’s an evolving toy.
It’s been a while, but this project is still going. The 305 turned out to be junk and decided to mix oil and water. A supped up 350 is better anyway. Enter stage left:
I wasn’t too interested in dumping a bunch of money into a build, so I waited out a good deal on a 350 that just needed freeze plugs. We’re fueling it with a pre-Holley Barry Grant Demon 750. Interestingly enough, the engine code suggests 72 Corvette. The Bug body is also 72.
Now that we’re moving under power, I can put some attention into the interior and start into the fun stuff. One not so obvious adjustment I made last night was putting in about 6° of caster. It was squirrelly as hell because the caster was pretty much neutral.

I don't care for the chopped version as much. It looks too hot roddy if that is a thing. Are you going to go with any type of hood or front end bodywork? If not, then the chopped look might be OK.
Haha. Those doors are doing the same for me too. Been meaning to buy iron oxide primer to get them matched up, but so much other stuff needs done, I haven't yet bothered. I think I will go today.
Just curious, are the headers on there "backwards" so you have better clearance at the front of the body? Or am I just short-sighted and haven't seen headers that sweep forward like that before?

Yeah... DUH!!!! if they were "backwards" they'd be pointing FORWARD! As Buggs Bunny would say, "What an ultra maroon!" Ok, I'm officially embarrassed, I'll crawl back out to the shop and watch old movies or something.
chopped version looks way better to me, but it creates an interesting illusion. With stock body, the proportions overall are fine and with the chop, the body looks smaller and that makes the overall dimensions look larger.
