    General suspension tech...

First off, it's been a while since I have posted on here, seems like this place has grown a fair amount, good to see that. Anyways, the bike in question is a street ridden CB350, and for the sake of simplicity, I am just going to copy/paste this entry from another forum.. So I've decided that...

1981 XS650 for sale. Not your average machine. Orlando, Fl

Thanks man, it's much appreciated. I have gotten a fair amount of positive feedback on it, but I think that not many people have the monies sitting around for toys right now. Shame really, it needs to be with someone who will ride the shit out of it. Cretin, email heading your way. Steve

1981 XS650 for sale. Not your average machine. Orlando, Fl

Okay, I would really like to sell this bike. I need to take care of some things. 3000 or best offer. And I want offers if you are interested. Worst I can say is no. Steve

1981 XS650 for sale. Not your average machine. Orlando, Fl

Better, I suppose, than a crazy short one? It's a one piece unit, without the junction block that is standard on these machines. And with the forks being lowered, I think it makes the hose seem super long in relation to the forks. Steve

Would like some thoughts on this..

And that is another reason why I wanted to sell the XS, to get myself a modern rider. I still have my devilish CB350 cafe as well, so it is not as if I am getting rid of all that is vintage.. Steve

Would like some thoughts on this..

This is a very good piece of reading, and after some thought, the truth. I COULD replicate this bike again, and do things differently if I wanted to. I had already put thought into this, when I was first considering the DR, telling myself I could always pick up an old machine(like this one was)...

Would like some thoughts on this..

Very true. I am getting the two extremes on this, and this is the most rational argument for trading I have seen thus far. And it is true, I have ridden a DR350 before, and there is very few machines to compare it to in the "I'm going to ride the shit out of this thing and hop off curbs!"...

Would like some thoughts on this..

Yah, unfortunately, the market for these types of bikes, at least in my area, has dropped out. So it would be a straight up trade, I have had it listed for a while for sale and never got much more than some "Cool bike!" comments. But originally, I put it up for sale because I wasn't riding it...

Would like some thoughts on this..

In the for sale section of this forum, I have listed a XS650 I am thinking of selling/trading/what have you. Had a local guy contact me through CL and here is what he had offered to trade. It is a 2002 DR650 decked out with lots of goodies for adventure touring, minus the road tires. At first, I...

1981 XS650 for sale. Not your average machine. Orlando, Fl

The time has come for me to finally consider selling my Yamaha I put together. What you are looking at is a 1981 Yamaha XS650 that I built for myself to try out the whole “cruiser” thing, and it is just not my cup of tea. I have a CB350 twin Cafe styled bike and that machine just suits me...

You bet your ass it is! ;D Pabst cans covering the coils, and Red Bull to collect the sludge. Pretty much the two liquids that fueled that build. Thought it would be good to pay homage to them.. And thanks Rawfish! Glad you dig it. Steve

Hancock, you are probably right. But years of growing up around old stupid domestic four wheel machines has impacted me. Me and my father were talking about this and we decided it would not be workable on a 2 stroke, as he's got a little RD125 with problem carbs. As a whole, I am not worried...

Yah I never really thought of it like that. It's very true. Thanks for the input man. Still looking for some time to take pictures of the seat for you. Information I posted provide any help? Steve

Tons of fun actually. Bilsteins+M3 springs on a standard 325is, rides like you'd never know that when you push it, it turns into an animal. And in my book, an inline six mill, with stiffer suspension and a trailer hitch=tow package. I use it to move bikes, launch jet skis, lotsa fun stuff. But I...

    My motorcycle.

Haha wow yah! That is pretty bad ass. I'm willing to bet those babies didn't even have any damping oil in there though! Probably just springs. LL, yah I used a few layers of a camping mat from wally world. Worked the treat. Then a less stiff but thicker foam I got at the fabric store for the...

    My motorcycle.

Well alright. Honestly, that's the easy part to explain. Basically, you need to figure out how you want your covering. Whether you want some sort of dimension to the seat or not. I failed miserably in that aspect. I was really trying to get a sort of 'tuck and roll' job. But couldn't seem to get...

    My motorcycle.

Haha, nope, no tutorial. But if you dig through the album where the pictures are at, you can see the pan that I made. From there it's easy peasey. I might write one up, we'll see. Seems like people are diggin' on the seat so maybe I'll make some up to sell. But honestly, it's cake work. Most...

Haha, that last post is just a great quote. Thanks for the kind words folks. As I said, I'm just glad to be done with this one. As much as I love building them, I love finishing them more. Steve Request for more shots on another forum and figured I'd copy/paste the post here too...

Here it is guys. As promised, the 'done' photos. Glad to finally be riding it. And the two girls together: There we go. I dig it. I'm happy with how it turned out. Questions/comments? Go right ahead. Steve P.S. Have more pictures too, and intend to get some rolling shots soon...
