Been pissing around with my tank for a while now (paint/new cap etc) and as I pulled some masking tape off tonight, I managed to pull some paint off with it!
Faulk you 3M!!!
God damn it! I basically dropped a dozen or more "f" bombs, packed my shit up and took off. My wife knew I'd be WAY too pissed to sleep so......
Here I am.
I really hope I can fix this without having to start over.
That blows!
There are ways to keep it from happening like tracing the mask line with an X-acto knife before peeling it off... but I usually ignor that step until it's too late myself. :
in theory the best way to avoid this little 'problem' is peel while its still wet.......i usually forget too, also sometimes not possible like when you're doing a 9 colour urban camo scheme
better luck next time
I refuse to give up though. Mainly because I'm too pissed to give a sh.t anymore.
I'll be returning today, masking the top of the tank (because OF COURSE THE SECTION THAT HAD TO PEEL IS DEAD CENTRE ON TOP OF THE TANK) sanding flat, re-priming, and then laying the color back down. I hope I can save this as my design turned out really nice on the sides.
I doubt I'd be able to reproduce the designs.....................again, because I'm sick of working on it and pissed off. : God damn I've spent a lot of time on this trying to make it nice.
Hang in there fella colour scheme is awesome worth going back to get the finish ya after i knew that feeling on chainguard of my little project was so pissed even had put original info stickers on lost 3 days on that shit stay cool open a beer lets know how it goes tommorows another year haha
I gotta ask - what's all the tape down the middle top of the tank for anyhow? You're spraying the black on top of the silver base right? Would have thought you'd just have the tape at the edges with paper across the top - maybe wrapped with tape to hold it down but not adhering to the tank itself.
Clearly I'm no painter though Never done it. After I learn to weld, painting is next up on the things for me to learn how to do properly.
I used a strip of tape lined down the centre of the top of the tank to use as my centre-line reference mark. That way it was "easy" to make my designs even on both sides of the tank when measuring down from there.
Many ways to do it the same thing and I decided on this one this time (never had issues when painting stuff in the past) but this time I left it too long I guess.
Off to try and fix it more now. When I left it earlier it looked much better but we'll see if it's good enough for me to keep.
We'll see. I sanded, re-primed, sanded, painted (blend), sanded, blended, sanded the entire thing, gave it one final quick coat on top and it is now drying. If it looks good in the morning (or afternoon) I'll wet sand the entire thing (1500) and then spray the clear.
Congrats on the save. Looks good from what I can see. The light wetsand with the 1500 should help blend it and a couple coats of 2K should help hide anything else.
That'll do!
With the clear you'll probably never see it.
I understand you are excited but let it cure and degas before applying the clear. Hate to have it heave now after all that.
Next weekend looks good.
