I have a 16" spoked rear wheel from my parts bike that I'm going to install on my 74 Cb750. The wheel has a 130/90-16 tire on it right now that needs to be replaced and I am considering going to a 140. I have read that some say there is plenty of room and no mods are necessary for it to fit, others say the brake rod needs to be reshaped to clear and some say you need offset sprockets. So the question is who here is running a 140, what exactly did you have to do to make it fit and if you can please post some pics. Also, what brand tire are you running and how happy have you been with it? Thanks for the help.
Mostly for convince and appearance. The stock 18" wheel on my bike is bent and I didn't notice the rear wheel on the parts bike I picked up was a 16". It has a worn out 130 on it now but I like the look of the wider tire so I figure if I can fit a 140 then why not? I'm getting the bike ready for an event at the end of the month and I haven't found any other replacement 18" wheels so I'm going with the 16" for now. Just want to know if the 140 fits for sure before ordering.
Well it's tight but it fits! I removed the chain guard before I even tried to fit the tire but I think it would clear with it. I had to move the brake stay rod to the outside and need to space it out where it attaches to the wheel. Otherwise it looks like its going to clear ok. I haven't had it on the road yet so I might need to clearance the swing arm on the right side slightly but I think it will be fine without. Here are some before and after pics plus some to show the clearances.
*edit*I dont know why these pics keep showing sideways, sorry
