i have a 1948 Dodge D24 sedan that i would really like to sell

i figured i would put it up here as i would like to trade it for a bike.

car is in good shape. very little rust(front floors and trunk) doors dont sag.
ran and drove great
new
-water pump
-water tube
-fuel pump
-tires are almost new
-brake wheel cylinders were done
-new headliner cloth but not installed
-Rad was boiled and sealed
-lights all work

bad.
-some rust like i said
-dent on the rear trunk
-one of the windows has delaminated
radio and clock are in-op
fuel gadge in-op

Fluid drive works as it should.

the intioir is out because i had plans to finish the car but now im away at school
original exhaust manifold was cracked, i bought a replacement one but never installed it. so its not running right now.
it would take very little to get the car on the road and driving. and finish the restoration while you go.
i have clear NYS papers for the car
would like to get $3250 but am open to offers and cash talks

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

I'd give a nut to have that car but I don't even have a garage. Shame.

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

the car has an AMAZING ride.
was called the "smoothest car afloat" when it was new.

i just dont have the time or room any more.
really is a great car

the fluid drive system is also very interesting

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

is this fluid drive the same thing as the hydrostatic drive?

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

Not really sure what hydrostatic drive is

Fluid drive was an early atempt at an auto.
It has a clutch and a converter

You still need to change gears with the clutch but the system let's you come to a stop while still in gear and not stall

It was marketed for a woman driver of the day....

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

Ah, yes thats the samething as a hydrostatic drive that ford was testing around the same time. Pretty cool stuff actually with the way those systems work.

MAN, I rebuilt 1950 dodge 1/2 ton truck in HS. Still have the old bastard out at my pops, I'm prolly gonna try to bring it home this year. Them old dodges are something else. It has the flathead 6 with a 3 on the Tree with an ELECTRIC OVERDRIVE. 8) Little thing would do 80 on the highway lol Was kinda crazy with no power brakes or steering.

I'd take you up on it if you was closer and I had the spare change.

Re: 1948 Dodge for sale or trade

I think the fluid drive was a very early torque convertor system, if I remember right they marketed the fluid coupling system untill they perfected the stator in the convertor that gives the torque muliplication factor. but thats all from memory, no Google involved. LOL

would really love an old pick up. would be very useful to have

when i first got the car i had it up to almost 80mph and it seems to be happy running 60 all day.
i wish i had the time to do right by this car and get it back together and back on the road but it doesnt seem like i will
maybe ill just sell off some of the bikes.....
