First thing first I need to get it running and that would mean clean the carb and check the points etc.
Quick soda blast and dip in the ultra sonic cleaner later the carbs were clean
I cleaned out the fuel petcock while I was at it here is the mess it was
I decided to try my hand at making a seat for the bike so I had a look at youtube and did a lot of reading as well as talking to those in the know about this stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT6P7qaUPLw
here is how I went about it:
Stuck a bunch florist foam together and started shaping
and more shaping
and test fitting (it will sit lower when mounted)
Wrapped it in Foil tape and waxed it so the fibreglass did not stick
I soda blasted the motor and cleaned up a few bits on it.
from this:
To this
I have a lot more work to go into the motor yet. It runs
I will note the bolt to "fix a hole" in the side cover of the motor was a funny one. I did manage to get a new to me cover that needs cleaning and some paint.
Right now the battle is going to be sorting out rear sets. The frame on this bike is unusual due to the swing arm being furthest out from the frame meaning that you have to clear the chain and movement of the swing arm with the new rear sets.
Working on the seat pan for the fibreglass seat. I used the mounts off of a crappy CB100 seat so that I can attach the seat to the bike with little effort and keep the factory mounting system.
The polishing has a long way to go. I just ran them across a buffing wheel to see how they would look. I have two sets of fork lowers so if I don't like the polished look I can always paint one set. And save the other for something else.
