Been Around the Block
Bought it from a guy who needed some cash after falling victim to one of those internet scams where they send you a fake check. Yep, he deposited it and bought a few things, then found out the check didn't clear which put him in a hole. Anyway, I came home with it last night. against my spouse's wishes lol

I have 4 bike projects already. This is an easy one and has some great stuff going for it, so I'm trying my hardest not to work on it ahead of the others! As I said in the title, it's a 1971 CL350. Chrome is in above average condition. Exhaust is uncut and chrome front to back, including the mufflers with light patina, but little to no rust at all!
All the electrical works, lights, horn, etc. As you can see, the side covers are reddish and the tank blue, but they are all there (right side is missing the emblem from the cover) and no cracks in the plastic. Seat has no rips or tears but idk if it's original vinyl or not.
Brakes work, but the front lever is a tight pull.
Even the starter works. I put by battery charger to it last night and was able to crank it over and test everything. The engine is getting spark and compression. Carbs move freely but there's a fuel leak, and the clamps are loose. It was late so I didn't put any time into fixing things up.

I think with about an hour's worth of work, this is a runner. The guy said he last had it running about 2 months ago and it ran great. I don't know if that's true or not but don't have any reason not to believe it would take right off with a little TLC. It's going to need a battery, and I'd check out the carbs to make sure the floats aren't sticking, tighten up everything and give it a go. Chain will need to be derusted and lubed, and I'd check the brakes (of course) to make sure it's safe.

Other than that, it's a rider! Tank is clean and other than paint chips appeared to be in great shape with no dents. Wheels look like they'd clean up really well with some 0000 steel wool and chrome polish. Same with the exhaust and fenders.

I'm looking for $800 as it sits, with pickup in Battle Creek, MI. I can put a battery in it, tighten things up and get it running, but the price will go up then :D To be honest, like I said above, I'm tempted to put a couple hours into tidying it up and sending it to ebay, but I thought I'd give you guys first shot. I'll take some more pictures later in the daylight (if I get home in time) and add them to this post.

Don't know why you wouldn't get it running -- that's a common sentiment on the craigslist thread. "Almost" running is always a red flag, and if it takes you an hour, you'll get a couple hundred bucks more for your hour's worth of work. Not a bad rate at all...

I agree, and I probably will in the end. I keep stepping back from one project and picking up another... trying to stop myself from doing that.

I pulled and drained the tank tonight. Flushed it out real good just to be sure any old fuel and sediment was gone. Hooked up a good, fully charged battery and was going to give it a little starting fluid, but I can't get the air box off the left without removing the exhaust. Can't remove the right side because the bolt spins. It was late anyway, so I called it a night. I'll get it running soon I'm sure. It spins over good on the starter, has good spark and compression. There's not much more to it
