1972 CL 350 Cafe Project

Replaced the steering stem races today. Installing tapered bearings. The old races came out without a hitch. I used a piece of schedule 40 PVC conduit (electrical) to pop them out. The new races went in just as easy. Stuck them in the freezer and then tapped them in slowly. Slid right in no problem! Wish everything was this easy!!!

Many thanks to Crazy PJ for drilling the holes in my front hub!

Crazy PJ sent me this link.

Under $20. I think they were $1.40 each + shipping. I don't have them in permenently yet, still have some touch up to do and paint the section between the spoke flanges. If I can do it Sunday I will.

The hub looks real good, going to have to meet it in person ;D
You mean paint between the spoke flanges, that's the inner bit of hub.
The bit between the brakes is the frame/engine :D
You free Saturday or Sunday?

RIGHT PJ! Painting between the spoke flanges. I'd like to prep the shed for painting on Sunday, so if you're free come on over. Ill try and give you a call later today.

Shaping up nice. I'm doing a 72 CL350 also. Keeping an eye on this.

LOL! I've been watching your thread as well Rock! Yours will probably be done before mine though.

Only because I'm not going to the lengths you are. I'm sticking with the easy stuff I know how to do, or can fumble my way through.

I didn't primer the hubs yet. Cleaned the paint shed up some more and started straightening the garage up. Put new bearings in a spare wheel, but couldn't get the thing to go on the original forks! Put a ding in the hub.
I'll have to mess with it more tomorrow.

Hubs primered and 1st coat of white put on. Found some loose tape and a little overspray on the polished area on the rear hub (SUX!).

After picking up and reading the can of appliance epoxy I had for the rims it said primer was NOT recommended. I'll sand the rim I primered down to metal and paint both at the same time this weekend. Maybe I'll paint my old spokes at the same time for shits-n-giggles!

You can never go wrong with dogs playing poker for your garage art!
