1974 CL360 & KZ400

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat "Zoe"

lil' seat action, used the old leather, it'll due for now.

made a new headlight mount

almost done with wiring, still have to wire up speedo and brakes and make everything , what a mess :'(
also come to find out my ballistic battery is shot or something..hopefully i can get it replaced

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat "Zoe"

got it running went around the block a few times, starting like first kick every time and idling great, problems are exhaust leak and the clutch is sticking pretty bad here n there. any suggestions

extra big thanks to sonreir, that guys the man!

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat "Zoe"

Meshed the speedo to the handlebars, looks a lot better. The rubber clamp from DCC thats supposed to minimize vibrations from harming the speedo.. totally doesn't seem to be doing its job. Any suggestions?

Fixed the exhaust leak, had the exhaust collar flanges on backwards ::)

Shorty mufflers and various other bits still coming in the mail.

Would like to inspect and adjust timing on the bike, is it as daunting as it seems?

Returning and hopefully getting another ballistic battery through the mail from ballistics warranty program..

These pics are a little old, polished up the carbs with the wheel, the engine is cruddy still too, when i get it going going straight to a power washer

Anyone have a rear left passenger footpeg they're willing to sell. Really don't wanna spend more than $5 bucks on it not including shipping, nothing less than $24 online.

Who has successfully hidden stock horn and ignition pieces? I like the bare neck look on the frame in that area.

And finally, went about the process of obtaining a "title" from vermont, I was approved and have the plates coming in the mail. Cost $70. If you don't currently have a title for your bike I highly suggest this route and not I.T.S.

I have no idea what that means?
you're not getting any fire on the right. pull the plug and hold it on a ground (engine). hit starter and make sure you got spark. If you dont, install a fresh plug. If it still wont spark w a new plug, make sure your points are making up. (since thats the last thing you touched) If you do get a spark, its a fuel problem. wear gloves while doing this procedure.

Did you set timing preliminary static, w a test light or what?

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

cleaned up triple tree, threw on old stock hoop for now, put on a cb360 brake pedal so it could extend properly unlike the cl pedal with cb headers. Still need some new tires and fork brace of some sort.

still a bunch to do on the honda but couldn't resist picking this 74' kz400 up for $140. Motor has compression and electrical seems to be working. Gonna clean the carbs and see if it fires up. Picked this thing up in my car, lil bigger than the 360 proved to be a little more of a pain in the ass to get in an out. what is a truck?

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

De-tabbed the frame, got new wheels, replaced bearings, turn signals, reflectors, threw the classic rearview mirror on there, new paint, properly mounted speedo, battery on the arm, ballistics battery fell through due to troubleshooting with the bike and constantly having to recharge the battery. Having issues with spark, brand new battery, timings correct, I think it may be something with the coils, I also believe I have air leak somewhere as well  really sucks because I wanted to ride it a bunch before the end of the season here in ny, hopefully I can figure it out before it gets too crappy out. Still looking for a front fork brace that can accommodate a larger wheel height in the front.

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

when i have the choke lever all the way up it runs at normal rpms but when i put it down it shoots up very high

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

also I've been a little confused on measuring float height. The manual is not rly descriptive but i know the proper height i just dont know exactly where to measure from. Is it when the floats are completely up or down (as if they were hanging like they are when the carbs are mounted) and the height from the edge where you fit the float bowl cover or the bottom of the carb side of the float bowls (non detaching side)

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

Carb should be about 60~70 degrees from 'upside down'
I do them with pivot 'at top'
BTW, it will run a lot better if you get some 120~160 degree bend exhaust pipe and move mufflers back 8"~10"

Re: 1974 honda cl360 brat & kz400

have you tried turning the idle speed adjuster down?

I have the manuals, i looked at a couple manuals regarding float heights and they aren't very descriptive. its not idle speed screws or anything of that nature, i have played around with those for days. what also contributes to me thinking there is an air leak somewhere is the air screws are all the way in on each carb.. obviously goes to say there is a big time problem somewhere.. i think an air leak but im not sure the manifolds are in great condition.

thanks for the tips, shortys are on there as a cheap replacement, original mufflers were ruined. Having shorter exhausts can have a pretty noticeable negative effect?
