1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed (now a Roller!) Yes..

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Now. Lets do a little polishing and see what it looks like, remember I don't wont to go too much here, just a dull metal sheen. Once I know what I’m doing (accent wise) on the frame (cracks, holes, tears, etc) than I’ll apply several coats of clear on it to help preserve the polish finish.

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Liking the artwork ideas floating around

Really like the idea of a polished frame, something a bit different, and looking real good

Look forward to seeing the artwork unfold

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

I really liked how the bike came out when you polished off the bits.

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Loving the WW2 inspiration. Maybe you could do the triangle side cover, and rivet the shield to it.
Looking great, keep it coming.

I agree totally. Stripping and polishing the frame like that looks great. I'm gonna keep an eye on this build.

WTF are you using to strip the paint?! It looks like it works incredibly well. If it wasn't so smooth, I would have presumed you sandblasted it. I've never had a stripper (hee-hee) get thos results.

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

+1 on Chris' question, what on earth did you use to strip it?

Amazing progress btw, I'll check up on your build to get inspiration for my own soon-to-begin build ;)

Where did this come from?? Four pages already! This build is looking good man!

I agree with motofiaccone, need to know what stripper you're using.

And I don't know if anyone answered your electronic ignition question, but if you don't want to splurge on the Dyna, head on over to the SOHC4 forums and pick up a HondaMan ignition. It's actually a transistorized ignition that uses your points, but needs no further adjustment and doesn't wear your points. It uses less power than the Dyna, and gets similar results. Or if you're on an even tighter budget, you could get this (same as the Hondaman, just not plug and play): http://www.apogeekits.com/electronic_ignition.htm

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Just found this one too. That thing is going to look cool. Are you going for any particular theme? I guess I mean are you sticking to a particular country's air force? RAF, USAF Luftwaffe etc.. And have you come up with a cool pin-up yet? ;D

Hey thank you.. I'm a little different and it will defiantly show up in my projects, hahahaa.. I've actually got quite a few different things planned for this bike.. 1 example.. I'm expecting some artillery brass next week, I plan on using those for my turn signal housing and I'll be using some .50 cal brass as stems, etc..

Thanks again for your time and kind words of encouragement.

As for the side cover thing.. I’m actually going to try to mount it in the center, that way it will appear to be floating between the frame.. haha Hey I got to me and try it at least..  one way or another I’ll figure it out thou.. ;)

Hey Chris.. I went down to home depot and got a gallon of for $27.00 (ish)... it took a total of 4 coats, one coat per side.. I pressured washed it off and dried it between coats.. it was really efficient IMO, the total time was just under 2hr for everything, including cleanup.. But it is freaking nasty!.. long sleeves, goggles, mask, etc is highly recommended sir..

Hope that helps..

Shaun.

Hey thanks sir.. I do appreciate the kind words.. I’m really looking forward to doing the pinup’s on the tank.. I’ve been practicing

Here’s one I’m still working on, I still need to pick a hair color but you get the general idea.

IMG_9483.jpg

IMG_9485-1.jpg

Here’s one I finished up last week..

IMG_9351-1.jpg

So yeah.. I’ll have a pin up on each side of the tank, actually it will be like the shotgun I did, ie each side will have it’s own theme.

I know it sounds weird and totally undoable, so your just going to haft to trust me on this.. hahahaa or not.. Either way no worries..

Shaun.

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Very cool. I have no doubts, just praise! haha I've always wanted to do a WW2 aircraft themed bike, some day I'll get around to it, but there is no way I would be painting it myself because may paint skills are...well...

Re: 1974 Honda 550~Four – WWII Themed Café Racer build

Awesome build dude, I really would love to make a WWII themed bike. Like that shotgun too, gave me some ideas. :)
