1974 TS250 / 400 Project

Hey guys,

Thought I would start a build thread for one of my personal projects. Frame is a 1974 TS250, which someone had already cut up to turn into a cafe racer.

Got the original 250 motor and managed to source a 1973 TS400 motor that was very beaten up which suited cutting up and modifying.
I’ve managed to squeeze it into the 250 frame. Just need to reinforce the original engine mounts now and make some adaptor plates.

The plan was to get the 400 to fit nicely then build and run the bike in with the 250 motor and slowly build the 400 engine and drop it in at a later date as parts are hard to come by

Couple of pictures of the 250 internals which I have super finished.

Couple photos of the tank and frame after blasting also just checking the 250 motor for fitment.

I removed all the stock tabs and brackets from the frame and primed the frame in a welding primer as I’ll weld everything on I need.

Once it’s all finished and I’m happy, I’ll pull it down and make it pretty.

Tanks from a Bultaco Metralla MK2.

The 400 motor took 3 days, fire and shit loads of rost off to split the cases.

The engine cases came up alright, has some internal damage I’ll need to address though.

Blown out crankcase around the crank, which will need welding up and the shift shaft bore is cracked which is a pain in the ass to repair.

Shocks are obviously the wrong height, Once the wheels and tyres are done I’ll set the suspension up correctly.

Going to run wider valanced 18inch rims.

Updates will be slow for a while as I’ve got to move house.

A few pictures of the 400 motor, working out rear sprocket alignment, mounting/reinforcement brackets and a few other clearance points.

A few pictures of the wheels.

Hubs where done in a cerakote gloss black with clear coat to protect the polish. Had the rims cerakote cleared too.

Rear outer spokes bends weren’t 100% so they have to wait a little longer to get re done

Looks good with the Metralla tank! Looks like you are doing a super job!

Thanks mate

Can never go wrong with a Metralla tank haha, such a cool bike. First production 250cc to have a top speed of 100MPH.

Such a fun bike to ride too, shifter is on the right side and has a reverse shift pattern.

Left hand kick, so don’t stall in traffic
