1975 CB400F Project "Replacement Girlfriend"

Nice, definitely on my to-do list.

And yeah I lowered front and back about an 1" and it sits a lot nicer in my opinion (though I am a short bastard).

I meant the fender ;)
I like the ride height at the moment

Awesome man! I think if you had a lower profile seat it wouldn't match with the seat as well as it does. I think it looks great, get that other side cover painted while its raining or at least prep it, then when the rain is gone you spray it and enjoy that thing!

Thanks guys!
I got the back of the frame where I welded the hoop on prepped and painted last night. Hopefully ill get the side covers done today. I'm really digging the matching red side covers. Too bad I don't have a rattle can that color!

Any good auto paint store can mix a can of paint for you. Around here it costs $21.95, you take your tank to them and they have a special camera that shoots a pic of the color and then the computer tells them what colors to mix into the can that already has the other ingredients in it and your in and out in about 5 minutes with a perfect match.

Mark,
I may just do that I hadn't even thought about it. We shall see.

The rain let up for a few hours so I got to run it around a litte. Damn it rides better with a seat!

One last problem it seems.
When I roll on to full throttle I get a pretty bad bog, it will go full throttle if I go slowly up to WOT but anything above "quick" and above results in bog.
Any ideas?

It just occurred to me that I never hooked any hoses to the carb float bowl vents. Not sure if this matters at all, I doubt it does but figured I'd mention it.

Ordered some K&N's (70 shipped from amazon, not bad) and should have them on tuesday for the real tuning (emgos at the moment so I dont see any real point in really trying to tune it) but i feel like the WOT issue probably has a cause and will stay even with the K&N's?

Stock carbs? Flange inside emgo pod is blocking the main jet port.

Stock carbs. They arent cv carbs and I just checked, there's no ridge in the pods. Maybe they are from mikes xs or something but they aren't k&n.

Just noticed It does it at idle with no load too.
Basically wot = dead bike:

Got bored tonight and decided the stock fuse box wasn't going to cut it with the crappy glass fuses.
So I tossed in a modern fuse box and epoxied it to the stock backplate so it still bolts up in the right place.
Not a big upgrade haha but probably a good idea.
I have fused the headlight, running/tail light, and the ignition. So it holds 2 spares should I get in a bind.

Damn, thought I might actually be useful for a minute there. :)

Hey you still may be. Got some k&n's on the way so if that fixes the problem then we shall say it was your idea 8)

Okay so as I suspected i was running WAY lean up top. So much so that i was only running on a few cylinders.

Remember when I thought my clutch was slipping because it would rev up but didnt feel like it had any power? Yeah thats because it was only running on a cylinder or two it was so lean.

Anyway,
Couldn't find a reasonable price on a set of 85 mains so I bought a set of micro drill bits and went to town.
Drilled an old set of 75's to 88.9 and holy forking shift what a difference that made. Whole new bike.
I am pleased.

Its too wet to really do much testing tonight but a quick run up the street and back says she revs all the way to redline and then some and pulls strong the whole way through!

And yet again crappy pods prove themselves to be...well...crappy.

Got my k&ns today from Swan and slapped them on.
Almost as big a difference as the rejet.
At wot, above 7k it was running fantastic with the crappy pods, but up to there it struggled, and there was absolutely no power below 3k.

Just a change over to the k&ns solved that problem.
So with my 2 mile test ride I say she's about 95% there on the tuning.

One cylinders cutting out intermittently at idle, probably a mixture screw set incorrectly I'd imagine.
