1976 Yamaha DT-175 Unduro

This is really going to be one of the coolest bikes on here. I love how light it looks. I really would not change a thing.

How do you like this bike? I'm thinking about picking one up. Found a complete street tracker/cafe built one for $500 that I would be able to tweek to my liking for next to nothing.

i definitely prefer the bars you have on there now. I never liked clip ons though, so I'm biased. Looking forward to the outcome on this.

In Japan the Yamaha Dt175 is near cult status. I freeking love this bike. I've had one like this floating in my head for years, I'll give you $110.00 and that's a handsome 10% profit. I think the shocks are on up-side-down the reservoir belongs at the top, that way you have the heaviest part of the weight on the frame and the lightest part on the swingarm therefore less unsprung weight. I would go with the Avons and shed the kick start lever and side stand, heros bump start their machines. One inch of neoprene pad on the seat that's it. Then make up some rearsets. You'll feel like a god on the backroads. What can be more primal than a 2-stroke single with bump start and premix? Art on two wheels.

It has been a while but i have started to make a little progress. Seat is just about ready to paint. No mounting hardware yet, it snaps on...I will have to build a mount for the rear and drill some holes in the appropriate places. I cut off the rear that was already tig welded to the seat pan. Used a crescent wrench to roll the edge to the new profile, cut a new piece of AL, bent it over a 2x4 and my knee and secured it to the pan using a propane torch and some aluminum boat repair rods. Used a crescent wrench to roll the edge, hammer and doll to straighten things out.

Great work, inventive I really like it. Anti-fatigue mat humm I'll check that out.
Becoming despondent and falling into a deep depression after you rejected my offer of $110.00 for this machine I went on a exhaustive nation-wide search (Craig's list) and found my own $100.00 project. 1970? Yamaha RT-1 360.. wow, is it rough, but we'll see? Keep up the good work and keep the ideas coming.

I def like your finished product..... After reading and looking through this thread I actually just decided to go out and buy my own DT 100 and slowly transform it... These postings have been and will be a ton of help...... I will get some pictures up of it as I go... This will be my first project with a cafe... but i am stoked for it....

I did have a couple questions tho... what kind of exhaust is that you have on there?
Did you decide to keep the clipons? If not are you willing to sell them?
(always had streetbikes so i like that lean and lower feeling)
And what can I do to gain more power out of this 100.... I realize that being small my top
speed will be quite low, but besides putting a newer engine in it, I would like to keep that
at least original... so anything you could do to answer or help me that would be awesome!
Thanx a bunch.... and awesome bike bro.

These 2-stroke projects popping up are killing me!! I love the old Yammy enduros.

I wish I knew about this site 6 months ago before sold my 1968 Yamaha DT1 250... It had an RT3 360 engine in it and ran pretty strong... I was thinking of making a dirt tracker out of it but didn't go through with it because I didn't really know where to start.

Good luck with the builds fellas. They will be an absolute blast to ride around town on!

This still has to be my favorite build. or lack of build to be true.
Love the simplicity of the seat, looking great bud. :)
If you so much as touch that tank it will be a crime against humanity. ;)

Sorry, i will at least finish and ride it before selling it as a matter of principle. Shortly thereafter i will probably move on. I have seen so many 70's/early 80's Yamaha DTs, ITs, honda, suzuki, etc. for sale locally for cheap it's been hard not to buy more. It really hurts me. More projects than I can even attempt even if i could afford. Just not enough time in a day. Cheers back at you, I'll let you know when I am ready to move on. I'm sure you could find something locally for cheap, craigslist can be your friend.

Thanks for the kindness. I am going to test drive both Renthals and clip-ons before deciding on which i like best. No idea on any power add-ons for these. This is my 2nd 2-stroke aside from my Echo string-trimmer I bought last year. There are many forums out there, yamahaclub.com thumpertalk.com etc. that should help. Exhaust (1 off) was made by the kind hearted person that gifted me this project for $100 (included). Silencer was purchased locally from Toomey for $59 http://www.toomey.com/html/pipe_parts1.htm .

Thanks, so are you saying i shouldn't repaint the tank? Would you hate me? I do not want to commit a crime.

I was going to flake it and candy coat it same color(actually was going with candy orange) with new/same decals on it or going all hippy retro 70's. I do love the tank as is dents and all. That is much easier.

I also have 3 choices of paints that should be close to OG for the tail.

Does anyone here know what motors are changeable with the DT 100.... i am not sure if i want to change it or not yet, but figured it wouldnt hurt to know to look at pricing? thanx

You could always pick up another tank and spray that one up?

Hi, new to the board and literally registered because of this thread. Any updates Undrtw?

I own the same bike and I'm planning to do some very similar work to it. I dig your bike a lot, but I think those clip on bars went better with the profile of it. I see you said it was more of a function choice than anything though. Hope to see more work!
