1977 cb400f project getting underway.

Looks good. Just an FYI -- you can fit '75-'76 pegs, shifter linkage, and rear brake lever to your bike to set the pegs back about 5 inches.

I've got a set of ttr400 road race rear sets in the mail :)

Looking good. I like it, particularly with the rearsets coming. Now that you are in the "up and running" stages, you might want to reconsider those cheap pod filters. I am no against individual filters, but those have a lip that blocks the air jet inlets and disrupts flow. Not only does it make it a bit harder to get to run right, but it will hinder performance. Get a set of K&N's or UNI's....or any set that has no lip, and has more than a mesh screen for filtration.

That's the boot taken out of the EMGO filter:

The K&N's have no lip, and the end of the tube inside the filter is bell mouthed, to form a bit of a velocity stack:

Hey thanks man! I never knew about the lip. Do you prefer the uni or the K&N?

I have used K&N for almost all my vehicles for many years. That isn't to say I think them best, it's just that I like the re-usebility of the K&N and always have the cleaner and oil for them, on hand. From what I have heard, UNI ones are good, as well, I personally don't know how well the foam would filter over the cloth. I haven't used an UNI filter for over 30 years and then it was on my dirt bike as a teen.

I think I paid about $115 for the set on my GS. The kit that is listed for my bike doesn't actually work, there was another kit that had two shorter filters so the outside ones wouldn't hit the frame. I got that part number from a GS forum.

It looks like your set should be RC-0794 and should be around $100

Rearsets are finally in! These ttr400 road race rearsets are awesome. Super lightweight and just clear the kick starter. Finally finished all the dmv bs to find out I have a charging issue. Troubleshot the regulator/ rectifier with Sparkmoto so hopefully that's all it is. Once that's done I'll paint it the same red as the 60's gp bikes and ride the piss out of it!

The bike is breaking in nicely. Found out one of the reasons the bike kept dying after short rides is because the regulator was bad and my tank cap vent was clogged from treating the tank with the kream kit. Unplugged it and it's charging and performing well. It's loud, not too fast, doesn't stop quick, and isn't that comfortable to ride, but I love it! Getting a lot of people coming and talking to me about it around town. Took it up to a SCREAMING 70 mph today! Once I'm convinced it's running well I'll send the seat and tank off to get painted professionally. Also bought a new Shoei today! The salesman coming in from his break asked who's bike that was outside, when I told him it was mine he asked "what the heck is that BEAST!? Let me know when your leaving so I can hear it." For someone to say that after I've put so much effort into these last ~8 months, it was pretty sweet.

Yeah I do. I'll try and get a video up this weekend.

Here ya go! Sorry about the vibration noise and crappy goPro mic. It doesn't do the exhaust note justice. Feels better every time I take it out. It'll definitely do the ton. Believe it or not it's actually hailing in central CA and I just made it into the garage when the rain came. Enjoy!
