Been Around the Block
Well, I began my winter build and I'll keep updating this thread as I move along.

Here she is the day after bringing her home. Bike only has 14,000 miles and runs strong. I went through and adjusted the valves, timing, cam chain, cleaned the carbs, then sync'd them up. Most of the work is going to be cosmetic.

Stripped down to the frame.

Frame painted and wheels polished. Im using Rustoluem Hammered Dark Bronze for some highlights here and there. As you can see on the sprocket cover and front wheel sprocket.

Spruced up the footpegs. My kids like to go on rides with me, so the bike wont be completely solo.

Added knee dents and painted the tank and sidecovers. Used PPG single stage black. Easy to buff out if I get a scratch or a rock hits the bike on the road. Crap does happen.

Tank wetsanded with 2000grit 3M paper.

Tank and sidecovers polished with 3M rubbing compound (used a rotary buffer), the with a white foam pad I used some Meguiars #9 Swirl remover, then final polish with Meguiars Scratch X.

I repainted the speedo and tach covers. I hit the handlebar clamps with the Rustoleum hammered paint. I polished the triple tree, master cylinder, brakes and fork tubes.

I engraved the fork tubes and rear brake. I drew up a vine design and love how it turned out. I carefully used my dremel with metal engraving attachments. Im going for details on the bike that you dont really notice until you walk up to it.

And here's the bike as it sits now. It's off to work on the engine. Hopefully this will be done in April and I can be ready for Spring!

Ya know....I saw "engraving" and cringed and almost couldn't look, but that is actually pretty nice.
Personally I think it's more of a bobber thing, but ya know......these bikes are all about personal interpretation.
I can't wait to see how this turns out...

That is a wicked build so far. The engraving is very cool. Your right about not seeing it until your on it. Why have a ride like everyone elses?
