1978 CB550 build

so I might have to sell this gem :'( There is a chance that I might be able to get a '90 HD Fat Boy for $2,500. I love my 550 and all, but being a custom painter, I could do up a Harley with some sick flames and turn around and sell that shit for 3x my investment. And $2500 is a steal for a Fat Boy ;)
I'll keep you all updated.

Oh man, that's the worst new of the day. I wouldn't do it.

agreed DBC! You can't sell the 550 yet. You just got it done. I understand about advertising for your business but you could also do that by riding your bike around and when people ask, give them a business card.

Anyway you could borrow the cash and keep 550?
Simple economics, the HD is way too cheap to pass up (what condition is it in for that price though?)
With custom paint it's should be an easy turnaround, even if you have to deliver around the country

I was only told about the bike so hopefully I'll get a chance to see it soon. Supposedly it runs fine but was abandoned on this guys property by his crazy cousin. This guy I'm talking to says he was able to get the title (and it's clean). Unfortunatly I'm in no position to borrow money. There are a lot of what-ifs here, so we'll see what happens.

well, after talking to guy the some more yesterday, it sounds like the HD will be gone before I can get the funds together anyway :( So, looks like I will keep the 550 :). I took it out last night for its first ride after dark and that pretty much convinced me to keep it.

Hey, does anyone by chance have a spare float lying around for a '78 CB550. I have a leak in my #2 carb and discovered that the float has a tiny hole in it. No Idea how it happened, but i need a new one now so I can get this thing to pass inspection....and to stop leaking gas of course ;)

The float bowl, or the float? Either way, you can just patch it.

The float itself. I tried the patch, but it must not have held very well. It lasted for about three days and started leaking again.

HOLY BATMAN!

This things has just become my goal for my 78 550k!
I'm back from my trip to LA and gonna bring the bike over to my house and rip into it big time! You have sooo many ideas that I am using on mine that the resemblance is uncanny. I ordered new spokes and was going to sandblast and paint/ powder coat the rims black, and have new chrome spokes. Where did you get that exhaust? how does it sound? Take a little video / sound clip ?

Great job dude! and DO NOT SELL THIS GEM!

Thanks! don't worry, ive decided to keep it ;D exhaust is really nice. It's actually pretty quiet which I personally like. I found it on ebay, it was a NOS system from the late 70's/early 80's. my camera kind of sucks at taking video, but I can see what I can do with it. maybe I can get something workable ???

i love the look of the bike and especially that front cowl ... very unique and fucking sweet.

REALLY thinking of trying to make one for my 750 lol

Such a sweet bike. Sad to see to it leave your hands. I am sure your next project will be even better. Hope things work out well for.
