1978 Honda Hawk II No Spark No Clicking But it Light!

Hey PJ,

I got the starter motor working and I hear the clicking.

The problem was I think it was the connection between wires.
I sanded and they are now sound like a motorcycle!

Thanks.

Now the big problem starts.
What is the next step after I got the electric to work.
Get a clean full tank of gas and pump it to the carb and see if it runs?

Thanks

thats great now just make sure you have spark, fuel and air, and see if she will fire up
lets see some pictures of the bike. We like pictures

This is where I started off.

Now it is clicking and motor is running.

Gotta take her out and put some fresh gas and see if she runs or not.

After that, I will again, take all parts down. and make it into a CAFE RACER.

Cool, you mean motor is turning over with electric starter.
You'll probably have to clean carbs, find a good carb diagram before you do anything.
There is a rubber plug over pilot jets, remove it and use an electrical screwdriver to get jets out (needs to be a good fit in slot and small enough not to damage threads in hole).
I would spray some carb cleaner in there first though and give it a chance to loosen up any deposits

I got into another problem now.

I know that cb400t is 5 speed manual.
but I only get three gear clutched excluding the neutral gear.

Should I open the right side engine cover?

If I open up the engine cover, wouldn't the engine oil spill all over?
Any tips on changing engine oil?

it is normal to not be able to change gears when the bike is stationary and not running. im sure your tranny is fine as far as changing the oil goes, i would work at getting the drain plug out and breaking the filter bolt lose without breaking/stripping it.

You need to 'rock' the rear wheel to 'find' all the gears (just need bike on centre stand)

Pj means rock the rear tire back and forth as you are trying get it into the gears. If the bike is on the center stand you can use your hand to do this. If you don't have a center stand just push the bike back and forth as you try to shift it.

You guys were correct, I didnt need to take the cover part to see if the gears weren't smushed.

They are in perfect shape, 6 manual including the neutral,

Next step is to get the engine clean.

Do you guys use grider to polish the cover and take the rusts off?
or Just keep on using sand paper with my hand since I have no grinder T.T

After cleaning the engine, replace the engine oil, make a seat, and then change the bars,

And go for a test drive. Looks like its gonna take about 2 week now.

Angle grinder with wire cup brush is quicker, don't use grinding wheels or discs as it will be real difficult to get a nice finish.
The slow hard work way your doing works, just takes a bunch of time and wears your fingers out.
Use about 80 grit on steel and finer on engine cases/covers or it takes a long time to get the scratches out

This the new light I bought and having issues working them as bothe tail + turn light

Anyone have ideas?

Adam
