The forces of the Kawasaki KZs on DTT has grown by one! Hopefully all you Honda guys can appreciate it, I understand how it is though, three of my closest friends are all working on CB cafe projects. Without further ado, here's my 1978 Kawasaki KZ650 C2 that I'm resurrecting into a cafe racer.

Brief history, I got the bike off of craigslist here in Raleigh, NC and focused on getting things mechanically sound first. After a thorough cleaning of the carbs, new carb boots, points adjustment, a few quarts of oil, a new reg/rec, and some fresh spark plugs, she lives! Now I'm at the stage of beginning to TRY to make her pretty!

Recently, I've swapped out the stock turn signals with new LED units, and a fresh electronic flasher unit to match. I also replaced the rear brake light with a new LED unit off of ebay. I got all my lighthing stuff of of ebay. I've also added some clubman bars and removed the rear fender to start the cafe look.

Anyways, enough talk, and down to what everyone came here for, the pics! Click on each picture for a bigger version.

Before LEDs and exhaust/header paint

Aftermath of sanding the old Kerker 4-1 headers/exhaust

Kerker on my "custom" drying rack after washing, getting ready for paint

Headers after the first coat

All painted up and back on the bike, much better than rust colored!

Waiting for the paint to cure

I've got one of Sean's Roc City Daytona seats on the way, can't wait to get rid of that hideous King/Queen seat!

Sorry for the lengthy first post; hopefully this thread will be some motivation for me to keep moving on the project!

Actually, it stays status quo, I just sold mine so you just balance it out :) They are awesome bikes so I'm sure you'll have fun. Much better than a Honda ;) ;)

Looking real good so far, going to look with that king/queen seat gone. Be sure to post a pic with the new seat.

That's looking really good. I like your exhaust drier ( A/C unit)
Did you get your tittle yet?

No title yet, but it won't be long. The bike was last titled in New York, and the guy I bought it from here in Raleigh is actually going up there sometime this week, so he's gonna get a replacement title while he's up there. Shouldn't be too long after that to get inspected, insured, and registered! It's great to finally have a timeframe on this whole situation.

So, unfortunately, I'll be in the Civic to meet up with you guys this Wednesday :( Still looking forward to it though!

That's fine I will probably be riding my truck, heck even Johann doesn't have a bike at the moment, Well... he has over 7 but none that are ready just yet. :p
