cafegs550

New to this site! I've had some limited experance building cafe racer style bikes mostly on CB's and KZ's. I recently picked up a 78 zuki gs550e. Was hopping I could get some info on a few things?

1) Engine Swaps? What works? heard story of bolting the top end of a gs750 on it? Is this possible?

2) Does anyone make a cafe tail and seat pan?

3) Is there any other maker of an exhaust other then MAC's? That one is chromed and chrome sucks!

4) If no engine swap or the above mentioned 750 top end don't work is there big bore kits available? from who?

I've spent the last month researching and for some reason the gs bikes eather aren't popular or not worth building cause I can't find anything cept OEM parts. And bone stock factory is always gay no matter what you ride.

I don't know much about the I4 GS's, but search around for a guy by "dansofield550". He is a member here and on the GSResources who built a 550 for racing.

heres a pic of a 550 and 650 top end, and a small pic of how it might look once done

I don't think they make a bolt on pan for the 550. There is a sweet dual disc/dual piston swap that rules over on the gsresources but it's expensive if you don't have a dual disc. As for the exhaust, I think the mac is the only one still in production. You need to try to find a used one like Vance and hines or kerker.

By the way Dan, how much horses does that thing make with the swap? Is that tank hand made? That's a beauty.

the tank is home made, i think the 650 top end swap goes fro 50ish bhp to 73ish bhp, a nice jump in the right direction for little cost and work.
