Not sure if this should be in the streetfighter thread or not, but here goes!!

I got this bike from my dad as a high school graduation present back in 1989. My dad tore it apart to paint the frame and different things and it never was put back together. Over the years parts were robbed from it to repair other triumphs we had, so I decided to get this out of the barn and start building it. As it is missing parts I am going to build it like I want it. It is a matching #'s bike, so all of the mods done to this bike are going to be bolt on only, so if I want to sell it later, it can be fully restored no problem.

This is the original Photoshop concept I came up with

Here is the rear rim I bought. The guy I bought this from paid like $1900 for the front rim and the rear rim with a custom made hub. I got it for $325 and it came with a brand new tire on it!!! It is the same tire in the pic, this guy just rolled the bike out, took pics of it and rolled it back in and parted it out!! It still has the rubber nipples all over it.

Well, I scored these for $104.00, Helluva deal!!! Ducati Sport Classic forks.

This is a new mock up of the bike with the Hawk GT (Bros) swinger and the spoked wheel.

Would you guys look at these concepts and tell me which one you guys like? Keep in mind the sport classic seat is wider than my tank and I think it will look funny.

This one is the sport classic tail:

This one is with a monster tail:

Or maybe this one with a Corbin Cafe Seat:

For me it's either #1 or #3. I think it make the bike look more faster and flickable with the smaller seat combination. Great start to the build already.

yeah, 1 or 3... i like #1 a little better from the side, but if it's wider than the tank, yes, it might look weird.

Well, I have purchased a sport classic tail (#1) to see if it looks good on the bike. If it is wider, I am thinking of modifying the tank and making it wider so the tank and tail fit together. I think the sport classic seat is the way to go.

Yeah I think you went with the right choice on the Sport Classic tail. Just works better with the tank. The old Monster tail just went a little too Streetfighter for some or other reason.

I like the sport classic tail, #1. Seems to flow well with the overall design. This will be a very cool little bike if you pull it all off. I hope you can! Also, if the tail is wider, why not modify it to be smaller? I think a smaller tail on that size bike would look better than a larger tank, and the tail would be much more simple to modify!

I am going with 3 just because you said 1 is wider than the tank and that wouldn't look right. Awesome start and I will be watching this one with much interest

I say 3 unless it would be easy to slice 1 in half and slim the width. Others on here have glassed the halves back together with great results.

I am only going to have a 160 tire on the back, I am going to try and keep is as old school looking as possible.

I will be posting some pics of the swingarm work soon.

Well, I was thinking about that. but I think it will be much easier to take material off of the sides of the seat. The sport classic seat widens right under the butt, so I am thinking of taking the measurement of the tank and slimming both sides of the sport classic seat to match the tank. I think this is the best way to go.

Nice idea! I like what you are trying to do with this build. I would vote for the classic look, number 1........flows well with that great tank. Speaking of that great tank, where did it come from and how did you score one for $100?? I feel as though I should recognize it but I just can't seem to recall......where can I get one????

They were used on home market, oily frame Triumphs and BSA's.
They're kinda scarce on this side of the pond. I bought my on Ebay UK, from a guy in France. Paid about $150, but it cost me another $90 for shipping.

Yep, just like SpeedFiend said, got it off ebay UK. I guess I just hit it at the right time when no one was looking. But over in England, they call it a bread bin tank.

Updated the cost list on the first page.

I should receive the sport classic seat unit tonight and I will line it up with the tank and take some pics. Then I will figure out if I am going to shave the points on the side of the sport classic seat, or widen my tank.

Ok, so I got the seat today and lined it up with the tank. I thought there was more area for me to trim from the sides of the seat, but there is not. I have thought about cutting it down the center and removing 3 to 4 inches from the center or I can have the tank modified widening the bump outs and adding 2" to each side of the tank and that would make it even width. Plus if I do widen the tank, it would exaggerate the knee cut outs on each side of the tank. What do you guys think? Pics are below.

I like the idea of a cafe racer being a narrow nimble machine, so I think it would be more suiting to narrow the seat rather than fatten the tank. Also, with the narrow engine, I think it would all flow better together if it were narrow.

Yep narrow the seat. Maybe you can even cut the cover and re-use it after making the seat narrower. Funny how fat that seat looks when with that tank verses when on the Duc. Never realized how wide the duc classics are. And they are on my like to own someday list when they are old enough I can afford one ;D
