Alright, some more progress. I've got the engine mounted back into the frame, so I couldn't resit taking some pics with the seat and tank sitting on top of it. It finally is starting to look like a bike again!

I ended up using a suggestion from someone in this forum, about setting the engine on its side and simply dropping the frame on top of it. Man was that person a genius. I can't remember who mentioned that but it made mounting the engine a snap, and best of all, it makes protecting my paint job just as easy. So here are some pics. Again, I had to use the flash due to low lighting, so the quality isn't amazing, and it tends to blast out the red paint seeing as it is reflective metal, and makes it look bedazzled to all hell. But in person its a much more subtle effect and looks awesome.

In some of these pics you can see where I've wet-sanded, but haven't gotten around to re-spraying the gloss coat, but I will, I promise ;)

On a side note, I just dropped $800 in parts  but they include my new 4-1 exhaust, rearsets, new front tire, new chain, new rear shocks and springs, and some other various parts, and should be the last of my large expenditures, aside from getting the seat upholstered. Boy when those packages arrive, it'll be like Christmas come early.

Man that is some tidy paint work, My wife wanted a metallic finish to her paint job which i was unsure of until i saw yours!!! now im liking the idea!! Top marks strife..

Awesome Bike!

I kind of got the chills when I started to read how you acquired your bike. Let me tell you why, here is my story. I had a friend buy a '79 CB650 for 500 bucks, his first bike. He got it running and about 3 months later came in contact with a dog, and laid it down. He had it sitting in his garage for the last 5 months, and decide to sell it to me. I bought it for 200 bucks. Crazy in my mind.

I hope that I can make mine look as kick ass as yours!

Man, similar stories for sure. I really need to do an update on the bike as it's been waaay too long. As it is now, everything is back on the bike. I just got the seat upholstered, and I am now working out the rearsets, the master caliper, and finishing up the switches, then it'll be done. I'll post some pictures soon, it's really coming together. And I bought my next project too! A big ass CB750 DOHC! lol, got it for $500 so i couldn't pass it up!

Hey guys, sorry it's been ages since I posted. I got a bit burned out a while back due to the complexity of some of the things and took a break. But I'm back and the beast is nearing completion. Here are some pics of the bike as it is:

I've hit a snag though. Because I went balls to the wall earlier, I lopped off the passenger peg mounts without thinking that they might be useful for rear set mounts. So, after a lot of measurement and design, we made a CAD model of a rear set design using SolidWorks.

The problem is, around me I can only seem to find metal shops that do large jobs, making them waaaay to expensive for me. So I need help from the community. I am in need of either a very small shop that does one off parts, or a hobbyist with a CNC to make my parts. Anyone out there with the chops? I would of course pay for both materials and labor.

Anyone? Buler? Buler? ;)

I was wondering what happened to this build.

And to answer your question about a small shop. Swagger just so happened to announce his business. Contact him and see what he can do for you.

Bike looks good. Love that long cowl over the rear tail. I've been thinking about making some rear sets and using the passenger pegs as well. I've got the same bike.

That black/red combo is really the shit. looks great

Looks rad! I want that seat you got from Carpy for my XS500 but it looks huge for my 500cc frame. I got measurements from him so I am still gonna try to get it to fit. Looks amazing, great work!

Hey Ryan, thanks for the email....I haven't looked at your files yet, wanted to take al ook at the bike.

Day-um! You do throw down don'tcha? I totally dig the paintwork, I a flake whore though.....the closer to BassBoat flakethe better for me! I don't know how I missed your build but thanks for pointing me here, that's some pretty pretty work mate.

I'll take a look at your files and get back with you.

Jay-kent, thanks for the recommendation! That was very nice of you..

Swagger: Sounds awesome! As I mentioned in my e-mail I've got some other parts coming down the line as well, all pretty small and basic stuff, so if it's up your alley that would be great. This is really the final real hurdle for me to get this bike done. The remaining bits are all pretty much small fish.

I love it when an older thread gets bumped up the list. Lots of builds I wouldn't have come across for ages suddenly appear, and this is a beauty. The colours aren't my thing, but the execution is top-notch. Great to see you're back on track. Keep up the great work.

cheers
