Question 1:
So I was cleaning up my frame and noticed the back side of this gusset thing near the head tube is dented in quite a bit. The other one of these on the other side of the frame is nice and flat on both sides. I had already ground off too much paint to see if the paint in this area was cracked from bending, but all the welds don't show any signs of cracking and nothing else on the frame is visibly bent. Is this the way the frame is supposed to be?
Question 2:
The spacing of the shock mounts is asymmetrical on my frame.. The left mount is quite a bit longer than the right. Again, is this normal?
First off, I don't know anything about these frames in particular.
The gussets almost look like it may have been added by a previous owner. I wouldn't think the dent was intentional.
As for the shock mounts, are they the same without the shocks attached? Are you missing a bushing on the shock that allows you to push the shock closer to the frame? A pic without the shocks mounted?
might just be the picture angle, but looks like you are missing a bushing on the left side shock mount. Although this makes me think it would be able to slide more freely towards the frame..anyways..check and see if you are missing that bushing on the inside of the eye of the shock.
as for that gusset, I believe it is stock on these DOHC bikes... i have the same gusset behind the neck tube on my 81 750k frame, not at home at the moment so I cant check for a similar dent but will notify if there is a dent on mine.
Just checked my frame..I also have a dent in the back of the gusset on the left side...could be coincidence but I'm thinking this is from the factory for whatever reason.

Thanks shaggypit! My heart dropped when I found that dent haha. I have looked around for other pictures of dohc frames and it seems to be stock...
I do have the left side shock bushing off in that picture just because it's a tight fit on that side and I was just mocking things up at that time. It's hard to see, but the piece where the shock eyelet butts up against on the left side is longer than that of the right. I will have to take a better picture later
Thanks guys, I thought my frame was screwed because the bike has definitely been dropped by a previous owner.
I got some more pics of the shock mounts... I guess this must be the way it came from factory but just like the factory-dented gusset, I have no idea why. It's just one of those little things that's gonna bug me. The left side sticks out 3/8" farther than the right
