Here my new to me. 86' Ninja 600. Just got her started today,(obvious carb cleaning in the VERY near future)
Just got it from my buddy on puh puh puh payments (total $1,000, in 3 months).
Got her started today, it idles and drives fine. I just left it on for a bit to change and my girlfriend was outside. I took longer on accident.... now when the clutch is engage and I put her into first and look to pull out and (at any rate) it dies. Then starts back up and idles. I checked the clutch cable and it is operating correctly. Could this be because the bike idled for too long? Oh and here she is, 11,257 miles old
Great looking Ninja. I had a red one back in the 90s.
Check that there isn't some kind of an interlock with the clutch lever and maybe the sidestand.
Looking at the parts diagrams, there is a clutch switch on the lever.
Other than that, it's probably crap in the carbs from the tank. Was this bike sitting/stored for any period of time before you got it?
Thanks dog. She is a beaut, it is hard to get mad at her.
I'm gonna get back to this in a week. I have a busy week pressing bushings for the rear suspension of my girls 95' Honda Civic EX. We are down to one cage, the bike will have to wait.
600 miles in 3 days. So yes, she is getting ridden! Pic from this morning.
I'm in hocking till Monday, camping for free! I'll be in the twisties within the next hour or so.
Btw, the issue was the kickstand switch. It was retracting enough turn the light off but not enough to actually disengage. I hit her with some brake cleaner, nylon brush and relubed thereafter, good as new! Damn funny how a 29 year old bike seems so new to me with all of the extras! Haha
Very nice man! Glad to see it on the road! Sounds like it will be a solid ol horse for you! Good thing you got that electrical gremlin figured out. What a sharp looking old bike.
And yes, the plan is to be at mid ohio =) I get the month of july off, so I should be able to make it!
Thanks for the good words and good news! Closer to that date I'm sure there will be a page for all who are going. I had fun last year meeting some of the dudes from the forum. I do wish I could have stayed longer, should be able to add more time this year.
Lookin forward to meeting some of the guys too. I haven't been there in probably 2 or 3 years now... not since I was actually somewhat "active" on this forum.
