Hello Everyone,

I just bought myself a 77 Yamaha XS750 (picture shown in all black) and I need help with fabricating the seat. I really want my seat to be like the one on the Honda CX500 (the nicer one with the tan seat) but with a higher and curvier back like the White Yamaha XJR , but I have no idea where to begin... Any suggestions?

I'd say a good 90% of the builds on this site are running a modified seat in some shape or form. You have 2 broad options that will depend on the desired outcome and your skill level. First, you can take the existing seat, uncover, cut and reshape the foam, and recover. This option is good for someone without the skills to build from scratch, or for those who find the existing pan meets the final desired outcome. Second, as I mentioned, is to build from scratch. You can go with a fibreglass mold, to which there are many online tutorials, or form something with metal. Read the build threads here and do some youtube searches and you'll find the option that suits you best.

You could easily use your seat pan after stripping it down of cover and foam. Lay up some new foam and shape it like the tall tail on the Yamaha and the front like the CX. You notice the CX has a dip in the frame at the main seat section that your frame does not, but you can see the seam in the CX seat that would not have the lower section on yours. Reshape some foam and make a new cover that way you can utilize your opening seat hardware.
