The way the trip fell that was just the only time I could go between my furniture shows.

Guatemala
Honduras
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama
Columbia
I think I'd just as soon fly over all of that rather than deal with the incredible amount of red-tape that would likely be involved in crossing that many borders, as well as the copious number of Amercan $50's it would take to smooth the way along.
$100 a day rents a KLR650, and round-trip airfare is $700 all in. Way cheaper than riding there and back.

You'd be surprised how smoothly it seems to go.
Read some of the crazy trip reports on ADV rider, those guys go from here to chile and back on dual sports. They are insane

My wife's cousin is doing this right now. He is doing it over 1-2 years. I don't know what kind of bike he is on, some kind of enduro style. He travels a bit, then stops and gets a job teaching English for a bit to make some money in order to travel some more. I think he might be in Chile now.
