350f Uni Pods

What's up guys?

Wrapping up my café project and getting ready to fire it up soon. I've read a lot on tuning the 350f's and some say it's damn near impossible with pod filters. I originally wanted to run a single oval filter off the stock air box (the first section - oval shaped plastic bit that attaches to the carbs). Then, I cam across these on 4into1.com http://4into1.com/uni-foam-air-filter-pod-set-cb350f-cb400f/. I know that the 350f likes to have equal pressures and what not with the stock system, and I also know that pods do not provide that (from what I hear). Now, would the UNI filters I linked be a better alternative for the pods? There was a post over sohc4.com about a sweet mod for the 550f and 750f that uses the same concept as I originally planned with one filter. BUT, it doesn't have the plastic air box to allow flow. Here is the link http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=79491.0.

Basically, I want to run the UNI filters instead of pods and am wondering if anyone has insight on whether or not this would cause tuning issues or not. It seems as though it wouldn't, but I could be terribly wrong.

I have UNI's on my 350F

Yes they are a bitch.
Yes they are the best of the bunch.
Yes you will want to murder after tuning.
No I still haven't found the perfect jetting but a super clean carb rack is essential.

If you want to do the airbox solution just measure the single opening and get a KN cone filter off amazon.

Any filter change especially to individual filters is going to cause you to have to retune.
I run K&N pods on my 400f.
It runs fine.

I did have to change the main jets, and change the idle jets, and screw with the mixture adjustment a lot.
It's not particularly hard, just a pain in the ass really.

I recently put K&N pods and rejetted a 400f. I don't know if the 350f has the same carburetors, but after this work, the 400f runs like a raped ape and has much better driveability than it did stock.

I bought a jet kit which had 4 different jet sizes. I used the richest jet in the kit, and raised the needles one notch. Don't remember the jet number, but the whole kit was very reasonably priced.

CV carbs do have issues when you try to tune them with pods, but the 400f, (and I assume the 350f as well,) have slide carbs which work just fine with pods. You MUST rejet, though.

When I got my 350F the PO had emgo's on there which I swapped to K&N and I could never get them to run right or even stay on.
I then swapped mine for the UNI's and its been smooth sailing for me. Im also on the east coast at around 400ft.

Right now im running #85's and she has a bit of a flat spot around 5K. I think i might even go up one size. I got the jet pack as well from SCI (http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=173)

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. That makes me feel better about the UNIs then. I think ill see about going the single filter route first (cheaper). Anyone have an oval boot laying around that I could buy off em? Im talking about the boot off the plastic air box. I lost mine along the way and have no idea where it is...

I have UNI pods on my cl360 I believe they are 3.5"L and iirc 53mm inlet (I used some hose clamps to tighten everything up. They are at a slight angle and I had to remove the outer red sleeve to get them to fit between my frame and battery box. But I plan on relocating the batter to the rear once I finish my pan and cowl so that should make the UNIs fit a lot nicer.

And tuning wise I got lucky. I bumped up to 125 main jets and did the old screw everything in and then out by 2.5 turns on everything and had her right in about 10 minutes.

LOL "raped ape".

Anyway... I just got my UNI filter (ordered the wrong size *smacks forehead*) and I can attest to their quality. Excellent finish as well. I just wish the outer filter (2-stage) wasn't bright red. ::)
