360 Counter Shaft Oil Seal

Been Around the Block
My question is about the lug on the big counter shaft oil seal. As soon as I pulled it out, I realized I didn't see where the lug was seated.

In the shop manual it says "Properly fit the lug of the oil seal into the hole in the upper crankcase."

There are two places where it can fit.

1) Is the notch that intersects the crankcase halves. (This is where I assume it goes)

2) The actual "Hole" in the upper crankcase half. (Which looks like an oil passage to me, that shouldn't be plugged)

Just wondering what some of you guys that assembled these before did?

Thanks, I was set on that, until I read through the shop manual and it said "hole". Threw me for a loop.

Thanks again.
