360 speed?

I have a 1975 CL360 that I'm making into a cafeish bike. When I got it it was mostly stock and I could get all of 80mph out of it. I want to know what you other 360 owners can get for a top speed and what work you did to get there.

I can get to about 96 on flat no wind and hit around 102 goin down hill with a tail wind. I did a top end rebuild and have 15" slip on mufflers, pods, and rejet for the carbs. Gonna replace the pods with uni filters or maybe V-stacks. Try to get as much weight off the bike as possible.

If it is anything like other Hondas that I have owned, the speedo will be very optimistic.

It depends on gearing.
Lot of people fit 16t or even 15t front sprocket
I run stock 17t front
They were road tested at 92mph, usually faster in 5th gear than 6th as it will probably red line in 5th gear and would need to be doing around 110~115 in 6th at red line

+1 GO 17 teeth on front and on CLs the BACK has more teeth than a CB if I remember so that will screw you there too. Get a 34 or less.

Mine does 100 easy flat out with no head wind 17 front 34 tooth back. Prolly plenty left for 110 cept the engine is out of UMPH at that point.

Neat gearing toy

I always found Honda speedo's were a lot more accurate than the Yamaha 'RT' clocks ('Race Tuned', reads at least 20 mph fast ;D )
Kawasaki were really 'variable' some dead on, some 20% out at all speeds
Suzuki could run up to 50~60mph SLOW when you got over 40mh (shows 55~60 at 110~130 real speed  )
In Britain, speedo only has to be within 10% at 30mph, most people assume it's 10% throughout range so you can easily 'get away' with 10% over posted speeds if your using accurate speedo or GPS

This is one of these threads where without a time slip its pointless. I would suggest putting the 34 on the trans and the 17 on the rear and go for light speed!

The Honda literature from that time states a top speed of 100 mph. With lower octane gas and the ravages of time, that'd still be pretty good.

That's why I modify them a 'bit' ;)
