Hi, I'm having a hell of a time finding a definitive answer to this simple question. I'm working on a troublesome Honda 400 four...the primary resistance on both coils is measuring in at 6 ohms...this seems a little high to me, I was thinking that somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4 ohms would be more like it. Can anybody confirm this for me?

Thanks. I probably wouldn't have taken this job on in the first place since I don't like trying to fix other peoples screw-ups, but since I have a fondness for these little machines...well you know the rest. Anyhow, the thing has had the carburetors severely monkeyed with and has been back to the shop three times now. Naturally, I was thinking the problem was carburetor related, so have been concentrating on that issue. Trouble is, that it works beautifully while I have it...even after I spend hours driving it, the plugs are burning perfectly and the engine running strongly, but when the owner takes it home, it manages to foul the #1 and 4 plugs in a few days. Perhaps I'm grasping at straws, but meanwhile to try to eliminate the coils, I have switched them around to see if the fouling issue travels to the unaffected cylinders.

Both good points, but I've been through this with him. He's very good at shutting off the fuel when not using it, in fact he's almost downright religious about it...but he does have to do some city driving before he gets out on the road...now having said that, the trouble is that he was on the way BACK from his last run, BEFORE he hit the city when he had the last issue. It had been working perfectly before that run and he had even checked the plugs a couple of times to make sure and he doesn't baby it ether. Curiouser and curiouser.
